Thank you Sharon for this photo! My college graduation (1971) Bob was so proud of me! I think he was even happier when (following in his foot steps) I went on to get my MSW. Never achieved what he did, but HE WAS MY INSPIRATION! Love you Bob and will miss you forever!

Being away from home for over 2 years, I have none of my photos to share. Too bad, because i have some great ones. I CAN say that I miss my brother so much that it is painful. Not only was Bob my brother, he was a father (and disciplinarian), he was my mentor and he was my friend! He always made me laugh (just when I needed it). Wish I had all of his voice mail messages to me because they were hilarious! I miss you so much Bob, but I know where you are now and that gives me peace!

My last memory of Bob was several months ago in my kitchen with Sharon and Kathy having tea and eating cookies. I was happy to finally share my home with him as he was my big brother Bob,. I eat those cookies everyday now.. I call him my big brother as in the late 70's his Mom took me under her wings as her unofficial daughter, consequently I had new siblings. I don't remember if I first met Bob in Erie or Mobile where he was living at the time. I knew in an instant that he was special, he lit lit up a room , was full of fun and picked on me unmercifully like a brother from the start. While we didn't see or talk often we always picked up right where we left off. There were many Kostur reunions and in later years the siblings. Our sibling reunion in Sanibel , FL found him picking on me after a pelican did his business on my new beach hat. Later in the trip found him concerned about all my sand flea bites. I could go on and on, but that's how it was with Bob and I. He was a friend, a mentor and my brother. Love and miss you Bob

I met Bob in 1994 when he said he had to rescue me after my job interview! He was always there to give me advice and to offer a shoulder to cry on in the worst of times. He helped me innumerable times when I needed something done in my home and he watched over me after my surgeries. No one could understand me the way he did. He may have started out as my boss and mentor, but for most of the last 23 years he was my best friend and I know I'll never find someone like him again. I really miss him. This picture is with his Mom at a Bayview party.

I have fond childhood memories of Christmas Eve at grandma's house on Dunn Blvd. The whole family would be there. Uncle Bob, Aunt Sharon and my cousins coming in from Mobile. I remember everyone sitting around the table, singing Christmas carols. Uncle Bob was always a jovial man ... singing, joking and having a great time. As a child, these moments were purely sublime. May you Rest In Peace Uncle Bob.

This photo is from our last visit with Bob, Sharon and family in May 2013. Some of my very favorite times in life were my extended visits with my Godparents Bob and Sharon and my cousins Michelle, Shari and Bobby. One memory that sticks with me the most was in 1989 when I had landed a great job but was struggling with the fact that it would take me far from my family. There was one person i wanted to talk to -- who I knew could help me make sense of this big change in my life -- my Uncle Bob. I called out of the blue and even though he was hosting a party with a house full of guests he stepped away and spent quite a while with me on the phone that night, helping me as he always did with his strong wisdom, kind heart and true love. No one ever made you feel more special than Uncle Bob. I will never forget you!

There was only one Bob Ward in the world and I had the privilege of having him as my uncle. I can remember the first time I met him I was a child and intimidated by most adults. Being introduced he bent down, scooped me up and lifted me up in the air. That's what he did to everyone. He picked them up and elevated people with his beaming, radiant presence. The older I got, he commented that soon he couldn't pick me up anymore lol. He was wrong. He picked me up everytime I spoke with him. Rest In Peace Uncle Bob Ward

Kelly and I evacuated to North Carolina during Hurricane Irma which was the last time we saw Bob. I am so thankful that we were there as it was a special time. We would hike and sit around the fire at night. He would bring Sharon and I toast in the morning and we called him Jeeves (after the butler). This photo was taken at a wine tasting we went to. I think he looks so handsome in this photo.

Bob has been a part of our family as long as I can remember. I think this photo was taken circa 1960. I was the bratty little sister that used to tag along with them. I remember spying on them, trying to catch them kissing! He always treated me with love and respect and I loved him as if he was my own brother. I will miss him so much.

We became good friends, and have shared many wonderful and hilarious moments together with his wonderful wife Sharon. Mark and I will miss him dearly, he was truly a great friend. Love you very much Bob. With tears and love... Laura

Bob Ward was a very dear and special friend to me and my family for more than 50 years. Let me tell you a story that illustrates just what a special man he was. Bob was my father’s childhood best friend and Bob extended that friendship to me in a way that I shall forever be grateful. My father passed when I was just an infant and my mother and I moved to Arizona and she remarried. In most cases that would be enough to lose touch with someone. Yet, Bob kept in touch with my Mom. Soon thereafter, at about age 6, we would visit Mobile and Bob (Sharon too) would visit us over the following years in AZ during Bob’s many conferences. I am sure it started at our first meeting, I would begin asking questions about my father. What Bob did for me, over the next 40 some years, was to provide a conduit for me to learn about the father I never had but desperately wanted to know. More importantly, Bob provided something of a surrogacy through his actions and friendship that demonstrated the ideals he and my father might share. Getting to spend time with Bob was a gift. I will cherish each and every memory of the time we spent together.

Our yearly sibling reunion in North Carolina. It is inconceivable to realize our dear brother is no longer with us. Our hearts ache at his passing. He made such a difference in our lives. We looked up to him for support and guidance after Dad died and left Mom with five children under the age of 16. He was the oldest. Quite a responsibility! He always made each one of his siblings feel special. To me he was my big brother who was full of fun, always ready to make you laugh but also there with good advice and a comforting shoulder. You have left a void in my life and my heart is heavy. Love you and miss you. Carol Christie-Eckard

My husband, Lyle Jensen, and I met Bob about 10 years ago. He was out in front of "Pop's Place", the Ward cabin in North Carolina. He was smoking his cigar and moving some rocks around in the driveway. We have seen him move a lot of rocks up there in 10 years! Since our cabin was just down the road, we became fast friends with him and with Sharon. In these 10 years we've shared many meals, many card games, and many puzzle constructions in our cabins. And we've shared days of vacations together at many timeshares throughout the state of Florida. When we would say, "Can you join us?" Bob and Sharon were always ready. We said goodbye to Bob and Sharon just 3 weeks ago, when they left their cabin for Florida. We had made tentative plans to get together over the winter months. We have gone from the denial stage to the acceptance stage regarding his death...but we do it with heavy hearts and tears in our eyes. Bob was a friend who lived and loved life. He was fun to be around. We will miss him terribly.

I met Bob early in the summer of 1965. He had just finished his first year of grad school, and was soon to be married. The State of Pennsylvania had paid for our respective degrees on the condition we work in a state psychiatric hospital in the summer after our first year of school and for twenty months after graduation. I was two years ahead of Bob in the program, and would finish my time with the State before Bob arrived as a regular there. The two to three months we worked together at Dixmont State Hospital that summer was enough to form a life-long bond. Two events stand out. First a patient-staff softball game in which the patient team's 3rd baseman, a former pro ballplayer, was somewhat hindered by the fact that he had been lobotomized a number of years earlier. There was also Sunny Jim's, a bar not far from the hospital with a pool table. Bob and I partnered up for matches against workmates and locals. Bob was not much of a pool player, and I was worse. Still, we won on a regular basis and we knew it was our partnering that did it. I couldn't lose with this guy. My friend Bob.
