Rev. Thomas Sayibu Imoro

February 28, 1956 - June 15, 2020

Rev. Thomas Sayibu Imoro was born to a Muslim family in 1956. With his parents' consent, he moved to live with a Christian Agriculturist working with a church Agricultural Station in Yendi, Mr Thomas Ahima, in 1969. Rev. Sayibu had the opportunity to hear and learn more about Jesus Christ whiles living with his foster father Ahima. In September 1971, he received Jesus as his Lord and personal saviour at a Scripture Union camp in senior high school. Rev. Sayibu was an alumnus of Ghana Senior High School, Tamale Senior High School, the University of Cape Coast and the University Of Guelph Ontario, Canada. He co-founded the Northern Evangelistic Association (N.E.A) and NewEnergy- an NGO serving in the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH). He was instrumental in the establishment of the Coalition of NGO’s in Water and Sanitation (CONIWAS) in Ghana and Africa Network of Civil Society Organizations in Water and Sanitation (ANEW). He played a key role in the initiation of the MOLE Conference which is currently the largest annual convening of stakeholders in the WASH sector. Rev. Thomas Sayibu served on the executive board of many organisations, including, GILLBT, Vodafone Ghana Foundation, Baptist Child Development Program (BCDP), Centre for Active Learning and Integrated Development (CALID), Literacy and Development through Partnership (LDP), National Health Insurance Scheme-Northern Region, CONIWAS. He served as S.U Northern Regional Chairman, National Executive Council Member and Camps Committee Chairperson. Rev. Sayibu was married to a lovely wife; Deaconess Samata Mahama Imoro and three blessed children; Wunpini, Nasara and Vincent Taali-mbo. In the early hours of Tuesday 16th June 2020, the news was broken by a male nurse with tears in his eyes. He shared these words ‘’ Throughout my working years in this unit, I have seen a lot of people struggle to die, but not him. He passed peacefully’’. He truly stood for the advancement of God’s Kingdom and we take solace in Psalm 116:15 ‘’ Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints.’’. He was a true saint of God.

Daddy nicknamed me AGAMASET because I sometimes removed all the different kinds of leftover soup we stored in the refrigerator, put them together. so you can imagine dry okro plus fresh okro plus groundnut soup plus light soup you name it all together in one pot. Talking of a problem? Daddy was always ever ready to help. As a child, he would discipline me whenever i deviated from the right path and believe me this was countless times. He helped shape me into a better person. staying with his family and watching him do things daily, there was only one thing prayed for and that is to be able to emulate him. He was honest to the core of what the word means. anyone who did the right thing would get along very well with him and would love him but whoever had a problem with him will definately be one who wanted to twist the truth or the right thing which daddy would not be a co-signatory to. He was a man of his word and I can´t express how blessed I am to have had the opportunity of being brought up by him, advised by him and most definitely watching and learning from him. Daddy we love you so much but we know that God loves you more and that he gave you to us for some time. Though we are sad he called you back home, we will love you and will forever have you in our hearts and also put into practice all the values you impacted into our lives not just by words but also through your exemplary deeds.

Mr Abukari Baba Sumaila -Executive Council Member, NewEnergy Tribute To Reverend Thomas Sayibu Imoro • I first met the late Sayibu in Ghanasco, Tamale in the late sixties. Even as a younger student, it was difficult to treat him in the same manner as his mates because he commanded respect – he was modest, friendly, did not hide his views on subjects that he knew about, and above all humble. • In university, he did **not** lose any of the aforementioned virtues but added to them religiousness and voluntary service to friends. • In the last two decades, I was privileged to serve as Executive Council member of NewEnergy with Pastor Thomas Sayibu Imoro who later became a Reverend. I did not fail to notice that he had become more pious, honest and very hard-working – the three virtues that sustained him, I believe. I must also add that I always commented that he was working too hard and needed more frequent breaks. • Around 13th June, I was very sad to hear that he had been taken ill and was extremely pained when it was reported that Reverend Thomas Sayibu Imoro had passed on, on the 16th June 2020. As believers, we know every creation of God will return to God – the Owner will certainly come for what belongs to Him, it is only a matter of time. • I pray that God will find for his family a replacement better than Reverend Thomas Sayibu Imoro. • May the Lord Almighty have mercy on him and grant him a peaceful rest.

I’m Bro Sayibu’s youngest sibling. Each time I was in your presence I felt the need to learn everything I can from you. You were the mirror image of the good character our Daddy is and what I aspire to be. Your wealth of knowledge about our family and life itself is truly irreplaceable. I will forever cherish the good lessons you taught me especially how to deal with tough situations. I will forever remember and miss you. We’re here mourning your loss but I know in Heaven you’re smiling because you’ve been reunited with Mommy and Colvin. Rest well. Till we meet again Bro Sayibu

We called each other Biba, a term that expresses pride of our wives meals being special. One says Biba and the other response, Biba, and we add Bombiri and Dimpaati- nla before we ask of family and discuss issues. By Mr & Mrs Azindow
