Peter Cowan

July 25, 1937 - February 23, 2021

It is with much sadness to report the passing of our old friend and colleague Lt (SCC) Peter Cowan RNR. Peter had been associated with Birkenhead Sea Cadets for over 60 years and had such a positive impact on the lives of many cadets and volunteers during this time. Always positive and with a can do attitude he believed in the benefit that Sea Cadets brought to the cadets and gave his time freely to TS Blackcap.

    Birkenhead Sea Cadets

I was very sorry to hear the sad news of Peters passing. As a cadet in 90/00s I was lucky enough to have very fond memories of Peter both at the unit and at our many Holyhead summer camps. Peter was so pleased when I returned to the unit as Commanding Officer and can take a lot of credit for all his positive influence over the years that gave me the skills to undertake the role. In all the years I knew Peter he was such a kind and considerate gentleman who was always more than happy to help out. He dedicated so much of his time to Birkenhead Sea Cadets and had a positive impact on many peoples lives over the years. Even after retiring from Sea Cadets Peter made an effort to keep in touch and keep abreast of the changes in the unit and hear how the cadets were getting on. Even in the summer of 2019, Peter was helping us paint the outside of the unit to “do his bit” as he said. I am grateful for all you have done for TS Blackcap over the years and also what you have done for me personally too Fair winds, Sir. Mike Larsen
