Paul was a larger than life member of the Sydney Region social and outdoor group of the Youth Hostels Association, YHA. This group exceeded 100 in those heady days, where we met every Monday night in the city at the Iron Workers Hall to have fun, talk to each other, dance, watch slides on the latest overseas and local adventures, plan weekend adventures in cycling, sailing, skiing, hiking, parachuting, hang-gliding etc etc. Paul was an active member on a number of positions on the committee during the 70’s/80’s including editor of our magazines, probably the treasurer at some time and, if my memory is correct, he also held the role of president for a period. I know Paul’s enthusiasm for making committees fun, rubbed off on many. We are all still great friends.. Paul was certainly running many weekend bicycling adventures where he would ensure our itinerary included close inspection of the historic railway station architecture in places like Orange or Cowra, whilst getting very fit and having a lot of fun. As the magazine editor his humour and skill was amazing in the way he could collate our adventures and misdemeanours and be able to put it into writing without the threat of being sued! We all enjoyed reading every word and looking at every sketch or caricature of our group of life-long friends. You would finish reading that small magazine most times by having a great big belly laugh. We will all miss you Paul.
