Dr. William “Bill” Randall Mealer, of Bozeman, Montana, passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on Sunday, October 15th, 2017. He will be remembered by his family and friends as a loving husband, father, and family man who devoted his life to twin callings - as a surgeon and as an outdoorsman. We ask for friends and family to share photos and stories celebrating Dr. Mealer’s remarkable life which can be shared during a celebration of Bill’s life planned for Summer 2018.

Four years ago, I was in a car accident that left me with several severe injuries - one of which was being scalped in two places. Dr. Mealer left a hunting trip early to come to the hospital and check out my head wounds. This began a 7 month process to both close/heal the wounds and restore hair on my head. I saw Dr. Mealer frequently within that time for a significant number of surgeries and doctor visits. The visits even included meeting on holidays, after hours, and an on-call visit to my workplace. The level of care I received from Dr. Mealer and the whole crew at SW Montana Plastic Surgery was exceptional and, quite honestly, heart warming. Dr. Mealer was not just a doctor. He was an angel on earth and my friend. My family and I are forever thankful for this wonderful man. He holds a special place in my heart and always will. I really miss him. All my love to Carol and all of Dr. Mealer's friends and family.

Bill was a close friend of mine in high school at Robert E Lee in Midland TX. He was easy to be with, always the gentleman and the friend with whom I openly shared the escapades of high school. I'll always remember him as my prom date, senior year 1965. Of course I have a photo somewhere that my mom and dad took. Peace be with you Bill and comfort to your loved ones. Until we meet again ...

We came to know Bill very late in life and this remarkable man made an indelible impression on me and my wife Lucy. Just before he passed he emailed me about his concerns for the Texas residents, who were impacted by the hurricane. I was so moved by his comments and concerns that I sent it up to our legal team in Washington DC with the request that they pass it on to as many legislators, who were involved with the relief effort. My heart goes out to Carol and his family. Our deepest sympathies to all of you Gregory and Lucy
