Even in your older age, the strength you displayed was truly inspiring. Baba Dada, I miss you so much. You treated me like your own daughter, often telling Jide and Funmi to indulge me. I loved making you smile, and I'll miss that dearly. Sun re o Baba Dada.

Daddy was an amazing man. He was strong ,friendly and accommodating. He was a nurturer and a friend. Very easy to get along with. I remember, he was fun to be around. He was also a very strong lover of God and he passed that unto his children too. I am greatly honored to have met him and I have awesome memories of my time around him. Daddy rest well. You lived a full life of impact to everyone around you. You are loved greatly

It is no exaggeration to say that he was considered the Father of Journalism in Nigeria — a title he bore not out of self-proclamation, but through a lifetime of service, mentorship, and unwavering commitment to the truth. Just last year, we joined him in celebrating a remarkable milestone — his 90th birthday — a testament to a life filled with achievement, wisdom, and inspiration. Even then, his mind remained sharp, his spirit unbowed, and his passion for journalism undiminished. His death at 91 marks the end of an era, yet his legacy will endure in the countless journalists he mentored, the standards he set, and the history he helped to write. Chief Ogunlusi’s spirit of excellence lives on through his family, notably his daughter, Funmi Ogunlusi, a dear colleague, an exceptional orator, and a dedicated professional in her own right. In her work, we see the reflection of her father’s values: diligence, eloquence, and an unwavering commitment to making a difference. As we mourn the loss of Chief Jola Ogunlusi, we also celebrate a life well lived — a life that left an indelible mark on journalism, on Nigeria, and on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
