Thomas Fohgrub

As someone hearing of this just now, I am deeply saddened and shocked to hear about Thomas. May his soul rest in peace. It was an absolute pleasure having collaborated with him on his seminal work pertaining to sustainable energy in displaced settings. Thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Dearest Thomas, I find myself once again reading through the memories and condolences on this page. I find it hard to believe that almost two and a half years have passed. The world as I knew it before seems to have crumbled in your physical absence. I imagine that you have a greater sense of understanding from where you are now. Thank you for opening your heart and mind to all of us. You have transformed my life, and from what I read and hear, so many others. I ask myself often these days what you would think, what you would do, how you would do it. Thank you for being a compass and a source of hope. I feel you with me and also miss you deeply.

Ich habe erst heute von dieser Nachricht erfahren und bin zutiefst erschüttert und traurig dass Thomas nicht mehr unter uns ist. Natürlich ist er weiterhin da, und schaut auf uns ab - gibt ein paar Hilfestellungen von oben und lächelt. So stelle ich mir das vor. Ich habe Thomas vor einigen Jahren in Genf kennengelernt. Meine letzte Nachricht von ihm habe ich 2013 erhalten. Wir haben uns bei UNHCR zum Mittagessen getroffen. Thomas war immer sehr aufgeschlossen, überaus freundlich und man hatte gespürt, sein Herz ist durch und durch gut. Gerne hätte ich mehr mit ihm gearbeitet und Scherzchen gemacht, aber das hatte sich damals nicht ergeben. Kürzlich habe ich ihn angeschrieben um zu hören wie es ihm geht und daher war ich um so mehr erschüttert von seinem versterben zu erfahren. Ich denke fest a seine Kinder, Frau, Familie, Freunde. Thomas as one of the good guys. A very good one. I am so glad I got to meet him and I was very blessed to experience his kindness. Thomas, cycle free in heaven. Keep the energy coming.

We were deeply saddened and shocked to learn of Thomas' passing. Thomas was the force behind the creation of the GPA which has been a close partner to Practical Action during the last 6 years and of which we are a steering committee member. Thomas's drive has been vital to the development of the humanitarian energy sector. He was a close friend to Practical Action, and our collaboration culminated in co -organizing the Humanitarian Energy conference in Kigali last year. Many of our colleagues in the UK and Rwanda have had many professional and personal exchanges with Thomas during the last year and held him in very high regard. All at Practical Action send their sincere condolences to Thomas' family, friends and close colleagues.

Thomas was a truly amazing gentleman. My interactions with him are truly memorable and his passion as relates to the humanitarian cause is inspirational. My deep condolences to his family and the entire humanitarian community. May his wonderful soul rest in eternal peace and may we continue to honour his amazing legacy through our concerted efforts, until we meet again my brother, rest with the angels, James.

This is a very sad news, which touches me deeply. Our paths have crossed again and again for several years. The last time I met Thomas was at the Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue 2023 and we thought about a joint event. That was at the end of March. Thomas was full of ideas. We were always very happy to meet again. His open, friendly and inspiring personality - I will miss very much. Rest in peace, Thomas. My deepest condolences to his family and friends

We cherish our memories of Thomas and miss him daily. He was a remarkable leader, loved for his warmth, humour, and approachability, always prioritising caring for and connecting with people over any work item on the agenda. He never stopped thinking big and daring to try new things. His legacy lives on in the humanitarian energy space which he worked so hard to build, and particularly in all the people that he touched by working with them. Words can't express the ache of losing him so suddenly. My heartfelt condolences to Thomas' family and to all who were close to him. Words can’t express the sadness of your passing. You were an amazing colleague. Always reached out to check how everything was going and kind to offer advice when expressed the usual work issues.
