Steven Edgeler

I have had the pleasure of serving with Steve on numerous occasions and it was a absolute pleasure to have known him. As a soldier he never complained (to me anyway) had a great sense of humour that is needed when times are stressful. As a dog handler/ trainer he was a cut above the rest, cared passionately about his dogs and as we know when you work with animals prepared to go beyond what is required. This wonderful man will be sorely missed Im so sorry I did not find out sooner - love to all his friends and family - Frank Holmes (Chief poo Picker for the RAVC) & Sian xxxx

I had the greatest pleasure of serving with 'Gruffler' in Iraq where we became firm friends early doors. I enjoyed our trips to Kuwait and he really was the most likeable bloke. He joined our rag tag band Iraq n Roll and belted out the tunes. I still have a recording of him sing wanted dead or alive and that man was better than Bon Jovi in my book. Taken far too soon, wish I'd stayed in touch more mate. You had the biggest heart of anyone I have ever met and I'm a better person for having known you. Love to your family from The Walls!

I served with Steve for many years within the RAVC and knew him well. I echo all the comments that have already been said . Steve was a big character with an even bigger heart. The memories I have of Steve make me smile and thankful. Rest in peace Steve. Until we meet again my friend x Tommy

My first operational tour was Kosovo with Steve. What a gentle kind and unassuming man he was, I was sad to learn he’d gone so soon and am not surprised there have been shared so many positive memories of him here. A genuinely good guy! I’m so sorry for your loss.

Steve was the best of men, with love in his heart for all, he had an infectious sense of humour and in all the years I knew him I do not think I heard him say a bad word against anyone, in recent years we lost touch and although we both tried it was not possible to meet up. He will be greatly missed and my heart goes out to all his family! Rest in peace my lover!

The most unassuming gentleman I have ever had the pleasure to work with and to have the privilege to call a friend. Rest well.

I knew Steve for many years. Although we were never posted together in the Army our paths did cross several times, and it was always a pleasure to spend time with him. He was always a very welcoming, friendly and sincere character, the way he treated me made me feel like Steve was one of my lifelong friends. I'm sure others had the same experience with him. As all RAVC people know, and especially more so in the days when the corps was tiny, everyone knew everyone and lips were loose when it came to reputations. Steve stood out in this respect too, I never came across any one single person that had a bad word to say about Steve. Everyone liked him, everyone respected him, and that is testament to who and what Steve was. He will be sorely missed, it was an honour to have known him.

Steve was a lovely man with a big heart, he would have done anything for anyone. Your children and frodo were your world and this shone through in the stories you told, absolute genuine man. Rest in peace my friend. Hannah x
