Robert Keane

My sincere condolences to Eileen and family for their very sad loss. There are very few individuals who have had a significant influence on peoples lives, Bob was such a person. When Flight Lieutenant Keane was Commaning Offficer of 1158 Squadron ATC and later as a Squadron Leader, he worked tirelessly and enthusiastically to create a vast range of opportunities for a very large number of young people. Personally, Bob's guidance helped me immensely through my teenage years and into adult life. I will always be debited to Bob for all that he did for me. Two of Bob's proudest moments were when 7 cadets received their gold D of E awards and when he received the "Sword of Honour" for 1158 being the best squadron in No 1 Welsh Wing. Bob will be missed by many.

My heart ❤️ felt condolences to the family, to thank Bob for all he did for the youth of Ebbw Vale is not enough. He was kind and genuine person who would do a kindness rather than a disservice. He made me what i am today. Forever greatfull. Tim

This is such sad news. I remember Rob fondly from our chats at the King quiz - what a delightful chap, always bringing good cheer and laughter. Sending my condolences to you all.

Bob Keane, as my commanding officer at 1158 squadron, as a mentor and more importantly as my friend since 1968. His influence on my life is immeasurable, from my days as a young ATC cadet until I joined the RAF. What can you say of the man that helped mold and shape my life to becoming the man I am. Bob thank you for the great times summer camps, sporting trips, camping and flying experiences, all memories that will stay with me forever. My condolences to all his family and friends. I first met Bob as a 13 year old when I joined 1158, one thing he told me, which has always stuck with me is, saying "i could have" doesn't count for anything but saying "i did" does. Always had a laugh when we met and talked old times. I owed Bob a lot for pushing me to be a better, more determined person. So very sad for all his family and friends at this time. RIP Bob......you made your mark.

My sincere condolences to you and your family Lisa. Your dad spent many hours coaching me on the rifle range at the TA Centre in Ebww Vale. He was the reason I became good at shooting. I will always remember him for his calm, patient approach and lovley manner. God Bless and Blue Skies Bob. Mike

Sqn LdrRobert Keane RAF VR(T) Rtrd will be remembered greatly as the Officer Commanding for 1158 (Ebbw Vale) Squadron between 1968 and 1977 putting forward the best for the cadets of the Air Training Corps. Rest easy sir.
