Rob Swartbol was an Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Indonesia, Timor-Leste and ASEAN in 2014-2019. During his tenure, he had touched many lives and hearts by his kindness, integrity and great leadership. He is survived by his lovely parents, spouse, two sons and a daughter-in-law. We, colleagues at the Embassy, are greatly saddened by his untimely passing.

It was with big surprise and deep sorrow that I received sad news about Rob. I want to express deepest condolences as well as sincere wishes of courage and perseverance to his family and friends! After arriving in Jakarta in September 2018 I found Rob full of energy and eager to share his knowledge with a newcomer. As a sign of his "full speed" I remember when we compared notes on the Idul Fitri meetings (2019) with Indonesian dignitaries. I was proud with 6, Rob had more than 20 invitations.

With great sadness we received the sad news of Rob Swartbol`s untimely death. The Dutch diplomatic service has lost one of its best representatives. Colleagues and friends in Indonesia, where he spent many years as his country's Ambassador, were left without a reliable friend and associate, both in official daily affairs and in unforgettable informal gatherings on golf courses and visits to various parts of this great country.
