A lot of people have known him as a big scientist, especially a sulfur chemist. Once he was lecturing at the University of Urbana-Champaign, IL, and he was introduced in a nice manner ""S" in the periodic System Stands for Steudel". It felt like that for many. He was a known text-book author, an incredible teacher. But first of all, he was an amazing person. He was generous, he was humorous, he was very critical (!) and he was such a loving person.

So sorry for your loss Yana. Ralf was such a gentleman and a pleasure to collaborate with in his consultancy to Eastman. I will always remember our very nice dinner at the Reichstag and his walking tour around Berlin the next day. What a kind host he and you were. My condolences. Bob Hembre
