Every time I think of Prof I am full of thankfulness for his compassionate, amazing care and the diligence with which he treated all of his patients. Treating each one as if they were the only patient he had. I always said I was his number one patient, which he continued to play along with during those many years he was my doc. My sister and her daughter both had hysterectomies on the same day under the profs care. The prof told us that this was the first time he had a mother and daughter going through the same operations on the same day I offer my deepest condolence to the family and assure you I will hold you in my thoughts Thank you for sharing your husband and father with so many. Only in eternity will we truly find out the legacy of. the Prof.

Very sad news of Jim's passing. My heartfelt condolences to samina, Jamie, Jessica and leisa. Having lost both my parents I know how much pain you are going through. My biggest hugs and love to all Jim has left behind. He was a gentleman, an amazing consultant and an all round lovely man I had the pleasure of meeting years ago in hospital. He will be sorely missed. Xx

I first met dr Dornan in around 1984 as my late mother Hilda Gilmour babysat the odd week end night for the family Jamie was only a toddler and his mother gave me all her maternity clothes as I was pregnant with my first daughter. Years later when pregnant with my second daughter and was told there were some complications and I was worried sick My mother spoke to Jim on my behalf for advice I don't remember if he rang me personally but he told me everything would be ok so I have him to thank for the safe arrival of my second daughter. Years and years later my eldest daughter was seen by Jim and I went along and I told Jim who I was about my late mother and the story about his advise he said what a lovely story and he got a shiver down his spine about it as all ended well. I got the pleasure to meet Jim two more times in his professional role in recent years he has such a lovely bedside manner. Both my daughters and myself were saddened to hear of his passing We will always have found memories of a wonderful man Condolences to the family Diane Walker nee Gilmour And daughters Jackie and Ciara Hewitt

My condolences to the Dornan family on the passing of this wonderful man. Jim delivered my daughter in 2008 via an emergency c section. He took my hand as I had a complete meltdown and calmed me. Down so I didn’t have to be put under GA and got to see my daughter be born. He came round afterwards and I couldn’t thank him enough and apologised for being so upset and any embarrassment I’d caused. He said don’t worry with a smile, checked how I was feeling and how the baby was. Then he left but he left a lasting impression on me. The world has lost a gentleman. RIP Mr Dornan ❤️

Jim was just the loveliest person who had the affection and respect of everyone who met him. My husband was a medical student at QUB & in RMH Belfast in 1980’s and has always said that Jim Dornan was by far his favourite tutor. He said that it was always so lovely to see the interaction between Jim and his patients who all clearly thought the world of him. I saw Jim privately at his clinic in Holywood a number of years ago and he was the warm, kind and wonderful human being which my husband had always told me he was. Such a loss to medicine and to the world as he truly was an exceptional man. Deepest condolences to his family. Rest in Peace gentleman Jim

We talk about Jim regularly in our house, as he was such a big character at such a poignant time in our life. It was 8th Feb 2012 and our little girl was coming 3 months early. The doctors got us ready, and mentioned that the “proff” was going to give them a hand. He was apparently retiring and this would be one of his last deliveries. As a very scared father I watched the c section nervous for what was to come. Well what happened was surreal and magical for me, he lifted the baby out in the sac or the “caul “. He simply downed tools stood me up and told me this story about a elderly fisherman he met who was born in the caul and carried it around in his pocket for luck etc. He then told me that this kid would be a great swimmer, and would love the water and would have luck etc. (He was right

Jim was quite the Celebrity in our Home. He performed an operation on my mother. Then also my sister whilst she was 4 months pregnant and all was a success and my niece is now 26. My mum insisted when I fell pregnant 18 years ago that I ask to be under Jim’s care on the NHS. I could see why Your Husband and Dad was the Best in his Profession and I felt so special that he was my consultant such laughs we had. I was very lucky to be under his care again with my second daughter. Years later my husband picked Jim up a few times from his home in Holywood as he is a private taxi driver and they chatted about Jim looking after me during my pregnancies. One thing that always astounded me was Jim with his hands around my Bump said Oh your looking at at least an 8lb 6 baby here and that was her exact weight. Jim will always be spoken of Fondly in our Home from a lovely West Belfast Family. Much Love & Our Thoughts & Prayers are with you All at this very difficult Time x ❤️
