The Lord Giveth, The Lord Taketh away! I am saddened by the untimely demise of my Main PhD (Economics) Supervisor of my PhD Thesis, A Model of Monetary Policy in Uganda, at the Department of Economics, University of Southampton, 1988-91: Prof Peter Smith. He was indeed our Consultant at the Bank of Uganda on Poverty Alleviation Strategies, 1997/98; Peter was my genuine Mentor, Friend and Co-Author in Discussion Papers in Economics and Econometrics on Structural Adjustment and Poverty--A Survey of Rural Uganda, and in the Saving & Development Journal, 2000 on Saving and Borrowing Behaviour in Uganda ; Peter loved his areas of Specialisation, Development Economics, Econometrics, Macroeconomic Policy Simulation, and the HASH and MICROFIT software; Peter was proud of his wife Maureen who made First Class Honours in Literature, thus combining academia, marriage and raising their children. I know two Doctors that he also supervised well --one at the Uganda Bureau of Statistics, Dr Chris Mukiza; and the other at the Bank of Zambia and later Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Finance, Zambia, Dr Pamu Mulenga. At a personal level, Peter physically visited my wife Lydia after she had delivered our fourth child, now Eng Paul Musinguzi, at Princess Anne Hospital, Southampton, and also delivered my University mail via her. Only yesterday, I referred my Grand Daughter Beth Olga who is doing her A Level Studies to Prof Peter Smith's Economics Work Book. Peter, you are our Role Model, on Earth and Eternally! May our Lord our God strengthen his Beloved Wife Maureen ,and their wonderful Children and Grandchildren! May the Soul of Peter Rest in Eternal Peace!
