On Monday October 28th, 2019 our dear colleague and friend Elias Kyriakides passed away peacefully, with his wife Stella by his side, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He is remembered by many people, all over the world, as a unique individual; first and foremost an exceptional human being, a kind and giving, spiritual person of integrity and uncompromising values; a talented teacher and great mentor to his numerous students and researchers; a supportive and stimulating colleague; a beautiful mind and an exceptional researcher; and, above all, a friend. Elias’ passing leaves a great void. We hope that this book of Remembrances & Condolences will allow his many colleagues, students and friends all over the world to share their tributes, emotions and memories, and help them celebrate and honor him. Elias was a leading expert in the areas of electric power systems and critical infrastructure systems with an emphasis on wide area monitoring and control, power system operations, and the integration of renewable energy sources. He was a member of the faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) Department since 2004 and a co-founder of the KIOS Research and Innovation Center of Excellence. His contributions were countless and will remain influential with the passage of time. Elias will continue to inspire the many people who had the privilege to work and collaborate with him and his legacy will carry on through the excellent work of his students and the support of his colleagues and collaborators. Dear Elias though you left us many years ago but today i felt your absence again Life has mysterious ways of testing and making you remember the precious things that you loose in your life.I wish i am strong enough to carry the journey that i once started with you abrupted by some circumstances but i remember your words that you said to me in your office. "Do what you want to do not what i say to do" Thank you for selecting me as your student.

There is no reason to express what I believe about Elias as a professor. His work speaks for itself. Instead, I would like to point out what I felt the few times I had the honor to communicate with him. Elias was an extremely kind and open-minded person. It took me a good while to find the spirit and write few words about Elias. The reason being that when a friend leaves, you become poorer. And my spirit now is much poorer. I have been knowing Elias for many years, so many that I am even unable to provide a number. He was always there with his smile in my frequent trips to Kios. Always ready for a joke. Elias, we will rejoin in few years. In the meanwhile, please get things ready for us...
