It is with great sadness that we learned of the passing of Meheray Erkin, an alumna of the IPADS program at The University of Tokyo. She was a scientist, a teacher, a student, a valued member of her Uyghur community, and a beautiful kind soul. "Let's not be passengers on the train, let's become the driver, a friend, and a talkative teammate..." Meheray Erkin With this memorial page, we hope we can keep her memory alive.

I sincerely hope your close family is safe and this will reach them some time. I hope your family finds solace in knowing they raised a kind and empathatic human being who touched lives and spread happiness to so many people from various parts of the world. Please know that your daughter, even though her life was short, her presence was meaningful for the people she was in contact with. I personally learnt humility, kindness and being more empathatic from her. She always talked fondly about her parents and family and talked about the landscape in her hometown and chinese date trees at the family home. She will be remembered with fond memories beyond her home country and family. RIP friend, Thank you for your presence in my life. I pray for your soul.

I only met Meheray a few times but I could tell that there was true kindness in her heart. Every time she would greet us with a big smile. She was the kind of person you wish only good things for. Sadly destiny had other plans in mind... now the world is a sadder place without her in it. Rest in peace, dear Meheray... you will always be remembered.
