We celebrate the life of Matilda Otulana (Coco) an extraordinary woman whose love, kindness, and warmth touched everyone privileged to know her. Although we mourn her passing, we also give thanks to God for precious memories she leaves behind. As a daughter, she was a source of joy, strength, and pride to her family. Her love, respect, and unwavering devotion reflected the values with which she was raised. She was always willing to lend a helping hand and brought warmth and comfort wherever she went. As a sister, she was a faithful companion, a trusted confidant, and a constant source of encouragement. She celebrated our victories, stood by us during difficult times, and reminded us of the importance of family, unity, and unconditional love. As an aunt, she was loving, caring, and generous with both her time and affection. She inspired her nieces and nephews through her kindness, wisdom, and genuine interest in their lives. Her laughter, guidance, and loving presence created memories that will be treasured forever. As a friend, she embodied loyalty, compassion, and sincerity. She listened without judgment, gave without expecting anything in return, and loved with an open heart. She had a remarkable ability to make everyone feel valued, welcomed, and appreciated. Though her departure has left an immeasurable void in our hearts, we find comfort in God's promise that those who trust in him are never forgotten. We are reminded that even in our grief, God remains near, comforting us with his presence and sustaining us with his unfailing love. We also find hope in his assurance of eternal life: "Jesus said to her, 'I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die.'" — John 11:25 (NIV) As we say goodbye, we choose to celebrate a life marked by love, humility, generosity, and grace. Her legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all whose lives she touched. Though she is no longer with us physically, her love, values, and beautiful memories will remain with us always. May God grant us the strength to bear this loss, the comfort of his presence, and the hope of meeting again in his kingdom. Rest peacefully in the loving arms of the Lord. Forever loved. Forever remembered. Forever missed.

Laughter Otulana
Aunty Matilda was truly one of my favourite aunts growing up. She was incredibly sweet, open, thoughtful and caring. I’ll never forget how warm and loving she was the first time I got to meet her. I was always so proud of her. I remember boasting to a couple of my friends that I had an aunt who was a biker. I thought that was the coolest thing. Unfortunately, we didn’t get to spend as much time together as I would have liked, but the moments we did share left a lasting impression on me. I’ll always remember her for her kindness, warmth and the love she showed me. May her soul rest in perfect peace.

I will not dwell only on the pain, but will rejoice in the memories we shared to comfort the grief your passing has caused. My cousin, my sister, and my friend, you will be greatly missed, Cocomaziani. There was never a dull moment with my Coco, as we fondly called her. Always cheerful, playful, and kind-hearted, she was a soul full of dreams. Coco was daring, always ready to take on adventures that we, the boys in the family, never had the liver to attempt. I recall the day she rode her bike all the way to my workplace in Victoria Island back then; I wasn't even surprised. That’s Coco, the that adventurer. I also remember when Eni called me one afternoon while I was at work: "Lorenzo! Lorenzo, does Matilda have a bike? I just saw a biker pass me on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway with the inscription 'COCO'." I laughed and told him yes, that was Matilda. He replied, " this cousin of yours is Obirin bi okurin!" meaning a woman who is like a man. Coco also knew how to banter. I remember years back when I came to worship at Jubilee Parish of RCCG, where the family fellowshipped, and saw her in the choir — I was so excited. I said, "Coco, you are a chorister now?" and told her I will join the choir as well. She replied, with my off-key voice, just like Dad's, the choirmaster would send you away in no time. "You took more after Otulana than Sonibare," she teased. It was always a happy moment being around you. Truly, my cousin was a jolly fellow. I smile through the tears as the memory of your voice and laughter brings warmth, a treasure I will cherish as I remember that you have gone to rest in the bosom of the Lord. Rest well, Cooc. Rest in peace. Adieu.
