We have all taken great pride in working with Marcus, watching him lead and develop the Quality Performance and Systems Service and drive up the improvement and quality across the Department. He was so passionate about his work, so tenacious for all of us to deliver better and better services for children. As we saw at the recent inspection the impact he had has been enormous and at this saddest of times it important to take a step back and appreciate just how vital a contribution he made for some of the most vulnerable children in society. Beyond his impact at work Marcus was simply a lovely man; always interested in others, always chatting, always keen to see how you are and to ask how he could help. Marcus’ amiability and genuine interest in others meant that he was fondly regarded across the entire Department and wider organisations. Norfolk County Council expresses their sadness and deepest condolences to Marcus' family at this time as we recall just what a great colleague and friend he was to us all.

On behalf of the whole of I&A (including Andrew who is on leave overseas, but who has been made aware), we offer our heartfelt condolences to everyone affected by the terribly sad news of Marcus’ untimely passing. We are all feeling a sense of profound shock, as I am sure are our colleagues within CS and across NCC with whom he worked, and of course our thoughts are particularly with his family and those close to him. Many in I&A interacted closely with Marcus. His support, along with his willingness to challenge and question perceived wisdom means that we have been left a far improved organisation thanks to his insights and his influence.
