Mallory Barnes

She was a great person, I will always remember her..

I was so sorry to learn today of Miss Barnes passing. She was my son's teacher last year for Year 3, and we really loved her. She had the best reading voice and during lock down my son, daughter and I would all gather round for story time as she read the Magic Far Away Tree. We kept in touch and I just sent her this message last Friday: Hi Mallory Barnes! King John: different continent, same throne�� please tell everyone at BSB we say hi from Dakar. Mrs. Barnes was my daughter’s year 3 class teacher. She was a great teacher and a great person. Last may, when I lost my father she helped us and supported us. I knew Mallory only briefly. We only had one face to face conversation just before lockdown and continued over WhatsApp during lockdown checking up on each other as we lived near each other. I will remember Mallory's sense of humour and of adventure, making the most of the early summer weekends to discover Romania in her camper van and her photos of bear spotting. She was so happy to have you Gail and Ben here for the summer. I'm so glad you spent that time together. My thoughts and prayers are with you as a family at this very sad time.

I only knew Mallory for a brief time this year but it was clear what a kind and lovely person she was. I am so sorry for your loss: Gail, Ben and family - my thoughts are with you all.

You were one of the funniest, most generous, and most caring person I have ever known. One of a kind! Over the years, we have shared wonderful memories as coworkers and friends. I will cherish all the adventures we had together from our camping trips, our road trips, and visiting both you and your sister in America. 'Living the Dream' was always your motto, and you certainly did that during the short time you were on this earth. Sleep tight my friend. I will miss you.

Although I never knew Mallory like many did, I was always struck by how adventurous and brave she was. Her military service, her time in the Falklands, her outdoor hobbies and her special van! Mallory was unique and her stories would capture the imagination of her class, and also the staff. She will be missed dearly, but she will not be forgotten. Rest in peace, Mallory.

For my son Mihnea and also for me, it was a great pleasure to work and listen to Miss Barnes. It is a big lost for the children, because she was an incredible teacher, always in a good mood and she knew how to make children love reading. Her reading time story was a spectacular hour of imagination. We loved her and we’ll miss her...
