Lori Houlihan

Lori’s time at Shanghai was brief, but her wise counsels and tenderness dwell forever in our hearts. Her journey on this side of creation has ended, yet, her dedication for UCL stays still. May her next journey beyond the Sundering Seas shall be filled with cheers and songs, and no shadow shall ever fall. Written by Nancheng jiang On behalf of the UCL Alumni Shanghai club

Hearing of Lori’s passing and reflecting on my memories of her, my overwhelming feeling is one of gratitude. I’m grateful for all of the opportunities she gave me during the period when she drove advancement high up the agenda at UCL, and took us all along with it, right to the top. I’m grateful for her advice, the confidence she gave us and the trust she had in us, and for getting the best out of us and really making us a part of something bigger. But my main memories are human rather than professional – like the time she had been to a UCL event in New York and brought back a gift for my new-born baby, and the image in my mind that even in such a frenetic and high-pressure schedule, when I can imagine just how much she’ll have been juggling, she still went out of her way to pick something up that she knew I might like for my daughter. I loved working with Lori, I missed her when I moved on, and I feel that absence again now on hearing this news. My condolences to Lori’s family and to former colleagues and friends in the wider UCL community.

My deepest condolences to Lori's family. What I will always remember of Lori was her positivity, cheerfulness and friendliness. I got to know her when she first started at UCL, and over the years it was always a pleasure to bump into her and take 5 mins out to catch up. She really cared about people, and made a huge impact at UCL; she will be sorely missed. Rest in Peace Lori x

It was such an enormous pleasure and privilege to have lovely and amazing Lori with us as a Trustee of the Film and TV Charity. She was a huge asset to us all, and as smart as she was funny to be with. You always looked forward to meeting with her because you knew it was going to be both incredibly valuable and enjoyable. What a rare combination. My love to you Dom and Poppy and I hope it is some comfort to know how loved and respected Lori was, and what a huge impact she had on the world. I have known Lori since we were teenagers. Her career achievements were nothing short of phenomenal. Add to this she has been a wonderful mother to her beautiful and talented daughter, Poppy. I feel privileged to have been a friend. My thoughts and prayers are with her family, and in particular Poppy, at this very difficult time. I hope that the wonderful memories they have will give them strength and, in time, some joy. With deepest sympathy John

My deepest condolences to Lori’s family, friends, and her large network of colleagues. I feel hugely privileged to have worked with Lori at UCL, and to have been warmly welcomed as a new member of SMT by her. Lori had the most captivating smile and the most generous and inclusive spirit. And she was a huge force for good in the world. We have lost a wonderful human being. Our lives are much richer for having known her, but how sad it is that she has left us so soon.

My sincerest condolences to Dom, Poppy and all the wider family on Lori's passing. Whilst I only knew Lori for for a couple of years since she joined The Film and TV Charity trustee board, her magnetism, insightfulness and wisdom were apparent from the first day we met. Her smile always lit up the room and she had that uncanny knack of always saying the right thing at the right time. It was a joy and a privilege to have known and worked with Lori. We are all poorer that she is no longer with us.
