Lilly was a teacher at Osborn for over 30 years and was one of the founders of the dual immersion program at Osborn. She was a fierce advocate for dual language education and worked tirelessly over the years to create and build the increasingly popular program at Osborn. She taught generations of children to excel academically, inspired them with the power of language, and celebrated the importance of valuing one’s own culture as well as honoring the cultures of others. Lilly was a past recipient of the Association of Two-Way & Dual Language Education (ATDLE) Teacher of the Year Award. Lilly loved teaching and lived by the credo that, “İSer un educator bilingüe no es solo una profesión, es una pasión!” To be a bilingual educator isn’t just a profession, it’s a passion! In memory of Lilly, her family has asked that any donations be made to the Osborn Scholarship Alumni Fund. (Osborn Two-way Immersion Academy tribute on FB)

Lilly was a light who shined wisdom on some of my darkest spaces. For the last few years that I worked with her on the Writing Continuum and recently with the Equity Platform Group, she was my mentor, my advisor, and my rock. She listened to my doubts and fears and met them with kindness, strength, and encouragement. She spoke hope to me when I ran out. She gave me strength to continue our work for underrepresented students when I felt weak and tired. Her stories about the early days of getting Dual Immersion started helped me have courage to continue to work for the causes grounded in values and serving humanity. She told me stories about overcoming, stories about her activism, stories about keeping the faith. I shall cherish our conversations, her text messages of ideas, suggestions, and encouragement. I shall miss her smile, patience, and quiet strength on this earth. But her spirit and the light she shared with me will forever be in my heart.

I did not know Lilly very well, but whenever we met, she supported me in my leadership role with Turlock Teachers Association. She didn't know me, but she took the time to encourage me, thank me, and offer support during one of the most difficult times in my life. I will always remember her as a strong, positive advocate for teachers and students. She will be sorely missed.
