Lady Abimbola Puddicombe

xx xx, xxxx - xx xx, xxxx

A beloved wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, confidant and friend—she was all of these things and so much more. She was the warmth that filled every room, the laughter and energy that echoed through family gatherings, the steady hand that guided us through life's storms. An example of a Christian with a servant's heart. A cornerstone of her local assembly. A selfless giver to her community. The indefatigable organizer at every family event. Her absence has left a space that nothing can fill. She was taken from us far too soon, before we were ready to say goodbye. But while she is no longer here beside us, she will never be forgotten. She lives on in the values she instilled, the memories she created, the love she gave so freely. An irreplaceable soul. A light that cannot be dimmed by time or distance. Forever loved, forever missed, forever ours.

It is so sad that you are gone. I look fondly on my childhood memories spent at your home, and the care and wisdom you showed, mediating squabbles between us kids. I know you are in a better place with Baba God and I look ahead to when we can meet again in His presence.

TRIBUTE TO MRS ABIMBOLA PUDDICOMBE Words feel so inadequate at a time like this, but we take comfort in the promise of Scripture that “their works shall follow them.” Your life was a beautiful reflection of love, calmness, kindness, and faith, and the impact you made will continue to speak for you. Rest on dear sister and friend, may God grant the family and friends the comfort and strength needed at a time like this.

Sir Dr. John Babajide Puddicombe

SUDDEN SILENCE AFTER A JOURNEY OF OVER 56yrs WITH NO GOODBYE OR ANYTHING CLOSE TO IT. Proverbs 18:22 "He who finds a wife finds a good thing, And obtains favour of the LORD. A source of blessing, favour and partnership. How do I say Adieu to my darling wife, foremost, indeed my companion, with a plethora of divine gifts: mother, sister, PA, special "nurse", "Doctor" In the house, SA and lots more. I first set eyes on you towards the end of February 1970 during our mid-term holidays at Government College Ibadan. I had just stayed about 6 weeks in Ibadan, after crossing over from Ijebu Ode Grammar School to read for my Higher School Certificate (HSC) course. Our encounter was by chance. As the mid-term holidays was for about 4 days, I chose to stay with my cousins, the Williams at Amunigun area of Ibadan. Their house was directly opposite your parents'. One evening, while relaxing with one of my cousins on the pavement in front of their house, you came out to stand at the entrance of yours. It was indeed Love at First Sight. The rest is history. In 1973 University of Ife offered you admission for Pharmacy, you turned it down and opted for Biochemistry at University of Ibadan. UI did not offer Pharmacy back then. I was already in UI. Not even your late eldest brother Prof Tony Adegbola who was then the deputy VC at Ife could change your mind. It was like the case of the proverbial frog that chose to carry her partner on her back as there has always been 'scarcity' of partners (oko won lo de....) When on the 10th of June 1978 I decided to take you to the Alter at the Chapel of The Healing Cross, University of Ibadan, little did I know that you were a woman of so many parts. A bundle of talents. You were ever there for me, be it at home, in my hospital, Church, or our social lives, as well as for the children. As a wife, you were excellent. Just like my mum when I was growing up, you had your subtle ways of correcting/getting me to change my wrong stands. You never allowed me to go out in colour-riot outfits. My designer and make-up artist for all events. For Societies' Anniversaries in the Church, Apart from the cap for Christian League that I know, you were the one that knew every one for the others that we both belonged. I can't but wonder how to cope now! Since I started covering the highly subsidised Ereko Church Clinic in 1986 to date, you were the longest serving "nurse" I ever had. As a biochemist, nursing was never part of your training, but when the nurses assisting me stylishly withdrew without notice, you became a "nurse" by induction and performed extremely well. My "Doctor" In the House, that left abruptly with no hint whatsoever. I normally keep some off the counter drugs and medications in the first aid box for common ailments for household use. You would, in character, dispense the drugs to neighbours and those who needed them urgently pro bono. The drugs vanished into thin air with no member of the household being on them. It took some time for me to figure out what was happening. As I spend more time in the hospital than at home, some of our neighbours would rather "consult" you for thier minor ailments(cough, frequent stooling, fever etc) than wait for someone coming home to rest after a busy day in the hospital. They were never charged a kobo by you. I never complained. Like the proverbial leaf used in wrapping the black african soap turning to soap if left for too long (be we ba pe lara ose a di ose), my medical practice did rub on you. My Personal Assistant(PA) and Special Adviser(SA) that left when I least expected. I can't but imagine what will happen to the number of things you handled for me especially in the hospital. My dilemma lies in the fact that none of my nurses or other workers understudied you. What an abrupt exit with no form of notice whatsoever. Our grandchildren have been robbed of the supply of provisions their parents took back to their boarding houses in their own days. We were indeed planning a visit to one of them in a boarding school in Ogun State. To say I will greatly miss you is indeed an understatement. You were ever there for me and the children and grandchildren. Your demise still looks like a dream. Even towards the end, I was indeed very hopeful that you will miraculously pull through each time I came to see you see you at LUTH ICU 1. To have thrown in the towel after 14days of struggle with death despite the superb attention that is 2nd to non in Lagos, from the collection of specially trained and very dedicated nurses, doctors and 7 Specialities that attended to you confirmed the saying that when it is time to go, it is indeed time to go.(irawe ki dagbere ile ko sun oke) So goodbye, my Darling Wife. Continue to rest on the Bosom of our Creator until we meet to part no more. Angels of The Almighty will help me now, guide, protect, and preserve our children and grandchildren. Brevity of life. Teach us to number our days....Psalm 90:12 You honoured the Lord greatly. I bless the Lord for grace to let our paths cross. Your memories are blessed SUN RE O! SUN RE O!! SUN RE O!!! Eternal rest.

A resilient woman has gone home! Iya Puddicombe, as I fondly called her, was a powerhouse of energy and diligence in kingdom service. Her resilience, focus, and meticulous attention to detail were truly inspiring. As an educationist by training and profession, she was exceptionally accountable – a trait that will be deeply missed by most of the societies she belonged to. Her dedication as a matron of Young Christian Ambassadors, the society I belong to, was unparalleled. It's heartbreaking that she left us on the eve of our 26th anniversary thanksgiving service. We had looked forward to celebrating with her and her dear husband, Dr. Puddicombe, only to hear the Bishop pronounce her passing at the end of the service. On a personal note, I'll miss her passionate and deep-rooted interest in my business and life in general. Her soft-spoken words, "Àbúrò mí", are already being missed. My moving marketer, sleep well and rest in the bosom of the Lord.

TRIBUTE TO MY DEAR ABURO &FRIEND --------------------------------------------------------------- I was shocked to hear of the sudden demise of my dear beloved sister,Abimbola Puddicombe My heart is heavy with grief as I remember those days and times she would pass by to say hello to me on her way back home, those things we both reflect on and information passed to me on church activities etc. Ah! am only left with these memories and will forever be cherished. Though death is Inevitable and everyone must embark on this eternal journey one day, whether we like it or not but I still felt her loss. A devoted and diligent worker in God's vineyard always making herself available and ready to support various church activities. My dear ABURO,you have tried your best, served God till the end of your life but death came at the time we did not expect. I pray that God in His infinite mercy will grant our daddy Dr.Babajide Puddicombe ,the children/grand children and entire family the fortitude to bear the loss. Sleep on my dear Bimbola, May the good Lord grant you eternal rest at His bosom. Adieu, till we meet on the resurrection day, good night. Lady Pastor Dr.E.A.Coker.
