Throughout his life Kye followed the beat of his own drum. He was kind hearted, very caring, giving and grounded. He followed his ideas passionately, he was smart and never afraid to try new things. He was loyal, extremely close and supportive to his mother. He will be missed by many and loved forever.

I’m just a stranger - didn’t know Kye but I’m sitting on the bench dedicated to his memory at Dovercourt park. Reading about who he was and all the wonderful things he had done realizing that life is short and we need to harness every moment. Bless Kye and it’s so nice his memory lives on to those who take the time to reflect on this bench and read a glimpse into his seemingly wonderful life.

Thinking of you Christine. Kye was always so friendly seeing him around our neighborhood. He would often stop to talk to our 4 year old son, Colin. Colin usually has a lot to say! Kye would wait, patiently, listening and giving him all his attention - always. Thank you for your kindness Kye!

I met Kye when we were both in middle school. As a teenager, Kye always seemed wiser and more mature than my friends and me. He was like my cooler, older brother. Kye introduced me to Reservoir Dogs, the Usual Suspects and Pulp Fiction when we were 15 (I think I mostly watched Disney movies before then). I’m a huge movies fan now…....and it all started because of Kye. Kye and I both loved movies, music and sports. Those common interests were one foundation of our friendship…….but the more important foundation was that Kye was always there for me. Kye was devoted to his friends, his parents and his family. Kye was very nice, polite and sweet. One of our mutual friends couldn’t recall getting mad at Kye even once during the 10 years that he knew Kye! Kye was funny and fun. Every time that we hung out, we would end up laughing to the point of tears usually more than once. And whenever Kye or I wanted to check out a new concert, we both knew that the other person was game to join. Kye was also very genuine and 100% himself. He couldn’t have pretended to be someone else if he tried. Kye never ceased to surprise and amaze me: the way that he dove into playing the drums, always taking forever to reply to my text messages, his ability to always find a job, etc….. I was always struck by Kye’s fearlessness. Some examples of this: Katimavik, his exchange in Scotland and England......and the way that Kye made new friends so easily. I would have been hesitant about doing any of those things…...but Kye was braver than me and he didn’t think twice. These are rare qualities…...and Kye was a unique, special person. I wasn’t sure what he was going to do…….but I knew that he would give it his all and that he would achieve great things. It’s cruel and tragic that we won’t get to see that happen. I’m grateful that I knew Kye. I miss him so much and I’m so sad that I won’t get to see him again. I won’t ever forget him. Rest in peace.

Christine’s students have always been lucky to get her as their teacher. From bringing Shakespearean plays to life to hula hooping with her students, she has always followed her passions, challenged her students to rise to their full potential, while having lots of fun along the way. Because the apple does not fall far from the tree, it comes as no surprise that many of the memories here reflect the same qualities in Kye. When Christine suggested that young Kye (14 years old?) volunteer in my phys. ed. class, I was happy to have him join us, but in the back of my mind thinking that maybe she was putting him up to it. No such thing - he clearly loved engaging with kids, and loved showing off his soccer skills even more! The students loved having him around to play with and talk to. He had a bright smile for everyone, but also a quiet observant side to him that matured him beyond his years. On many occasions afterwards, Kye would come up in our conversations and it was always so evident how much they meant to each other and how proud Christine was of everything that was Kye. Christine, as lucky as your students were to get you as their teacher, Kye was luckier to get you for his mom. So much love for you at this difficult time. ❤️
