Jonathan Snider

It was such a pleasure to have worked with Jonathan over the last few months. Sending my thoughts and deepest condolences to Jonathan's family and friends, he will really be missed.

I always thought of Jonathan as one of those rare people who did the right thing when no one was looking -- he didn't do it for praise or to get credit, he did it because he cared. We miss him already and will continue to honor his legacy.

With Jonathan, we always had things to talk about – he took a genuine interest, he asked questions. And he always had a different perspective. He broadened horizons and didn't just do the thing that everyone else did. There was no default or lazy way to do things. When I asked if he wanted to get a drink, he proposed going to the Wong Kar-wai film fest, which feels emblematic of his approach to maximizing the way you spend your time in the world, eschewing my run-of-the-mill catch up for a much more memorable evening spent together. When I asked if he wanted to attend the psych rock fest, he was down and was interested in bands I had never heard of. He expanded your perspective – and also wanted you to expand his. If you were interested in something, he wanted to learn more about it, because he thought that meant it was probably worth being interested in, too. But mostly, he just cared. About you. About helping other people. About making people feel welcome and a part of something. My heart goes out to Jonathan's family – my sincerest and deepest condolences. Know that he made an impact on so many of those around him. He contributed so much, and took so little. I will truly miss him.

I tried writing this multiple times and none of what I wrote seems good enough but like you always said 'Just ship it'. Jonathan, you are missed - thank you for all of the great conversations and thank you for being such a great person to be around. The world is emptier without you. To Jonathan's family and closest friends: I cannot imagine the pain and heartache you’re feeling. My deepest condolences to you.

Jonathan was in the Singapore office for about a month when I first joined Stripe - super helpful, super kind, humble, serenely confident, and with lots of knowledge to share. Never made me feel bad for asking questions, and letting me know that I don't need the pressure to know everything all the time. Wish we could have worked more closely at Stripe. Condolences to Jonathan's family and loved ones.

Jonathan was one of the first people who I got to work with more closely at Stripe and was so instrumental to my onboarding process -- he was always very kind, patient, and helpful for me during my spin-up, which I will never forget. Whenever I had a question, I felt like it was in good hands if it was Jonathan who would step in to help (and he often did! and he was also always so humble -- he knew so much about everything at Stripe!). Words cannot convey how much it meant to me to have such an approachable, kind, and knowledgeable teammate helping support myself and others as we spun up. Him becoming a training program manager was so wonderful to see, and was a great fit since he was so generous with his time and energy in helping others. I was also so excited for his new chapter when I heard that he was moving from SF to Seattle. We had a team event once going to karaoke, and I just remember it being so much fun -- he had a great singing voice, and he just had this warmth and calming presence / confidence about him. My sincerest condolences to his loved ones, and I hope they have all of the support they need during this time. He will not be forgotten and will be so missed, and we were all the better for knowing and getting to work with Jonathan.

What a true gem of a human. While I didn't know Jonathan as well as I'd have liked to, and while our work paths hadn't crossed in the last couple years, I still remember the ways Jonathan made me feel included and the fun and enjoyable, interesting conversations we'd had in the times I did get to interact with him. I admire and felt the warmth of the genuine kindness he shared with those around him. I'm thinking of his closer friends and family, and sending warmth back to you all.

Although I did not know Jonathan personally, but he definitely have made impact to my life here at Stripe. Being full time remote definitely creates difficulties of missing out or being part of the group. Jonathan has always been welcoming and he was always there to land a hand whenever I was lost. His dedication to hold case review and reviewing hackpads will always be remembered and appreciated by many Stripe onboarding folks.
