John Witt

I’m late to add my condolences here but I was thinking about John today and can only echo what others have said. John was such a calm and wise presence, always ready with a smile and with a brilliantly dry sense of humour. As a lawyer he was sharp and incredibly knowledgable, but on a human level he was just lovely to work with. I worked with John many years ago as a paralegal and when I rejoined the firm almost 10 (!) years later I was touched that John remembered me and went out of his way to say hello. No matter what your role or seniority at the firm John was always kind, welcoming and fair. I was so saddened to hear of his passing and it’s clear his loss will be keenly felt by so many. My deepest condolences to John’s family and friends who have lost a wonderful man far too soon. Rest in peace John.

We’ve all learned so much from John. I was so saddened to hear this awful news. Thank you for everything you ever taught me in my 3 years at Capsticks John and in little ARDL event chats since. I’m thankful. I have such fond memories of our many chats in the car park after long days at the Wimbledon office. Such a kind, warm lovely man. Whenever I visited the London office I was always pleased to bump into John. I had such respect for his kind and gentle approach. He was always lovely to talk to and had such wisdom that I knew I could turn to him when I had a tricky issue. He will be greatly missed and I pass on my condolences to his family. Rest in peace, John.

John was a man of great integrity and professionalism and I respected him very much. My condolences to his family and to his colleagues at Capsticks.

We were devastated to hear the news about John. He was so incredibly kind. Not to mention unflappable in a job that demanded a lot. I remember in particular John being the first to email me to congratulate me on the birth of our first daughter, thoughtful as ever and always making time for people. John understood and embodied the human side of the workplace. I enjoyed our chats in the first floor corridor, the long link between Real Estate and Regulatory. Very best wishes to John's family. The world needs more people like John.

I was deeply saddened and shocked to learn of John's passing. He was a kind man and an inspiration to many who had the pleasure to work with him. A sad loss to the profession and my thoughts are with his family, friends and all at Capsticks.

I was so sorry to hear of John’s passing. He was my first head of department when I joined Capsticks as a trainee and always stopped for a chat when I saw him after qualifying. I organised the department Christmas party as a trainee in Dispute Resolution and remember his look of slight alarm at the number of shots being ordered towards the end of the night (he politely declined the offer of one personally)! Incidentally a good friend of mine was also form tutor / housemistress to Joe, Martha and Harry at St John’s and when we spoke of this shared connection it was clear how proud John was of his children. He was an extremely kind man, a steady presence for those he worked with and will be hugely missed by everyone at Capsticks. Sending my best wishes to his family and friends at such a difficult time.
