John passed away peacefully in St Gemma's Hospice, Leeds following a short illness. He achieved many things in life, but the notable highlights were his involvement with the wing design of the Avro Vulcan Bomber followed by many years at Fulneck as maths teacher and head of sixth form. He was an intelligent, witty gentleman who had a good knowledge of many subjects. You could learn a lot from him with his conversations. He married Barbara in 1991 'inheriting' her two daughters. He treated his step daughters and subsequent grandchildren as if they were his own. Barbara passed away in October 2022, so we know they are now at peace together. A lovely man who will be missed by many.

Mr Stansfield was a gentle, kind teacher. He got me through my ‘O’ Level Maths. I remember him arriving at Fulneck School on his motorbike - looking very cool in his leathers, after which he changed into his grey suit. The world is a better place for the imprint of gentleness and kindness he had on many. Thank you, Mr Stansfield
