Dear Lyn, James, Jane and family Amazing the gift of modern technology to allow me to attend John’s service from Melbourne in lockdown and to feel part of giving thanks to God of knowing John , being on the end of some of his quiet wisdom and for shared roast dinner hospitality. A beautiful celebration of a life well lived for God .

Dear Lyn and family , We are thankful that we could share in the wonderful celebration of John’s life. We remember with gratitude his insights and wise counsel over many years . It was a blessing to have him as our GP and help deliver our 3 children . We look forward to renewing our friendship with him in heaven. Love to all the family

Dear Lyn and family, our prayers are for you as you walk through the next few months. The videoed service bought back a lot of memories of the times in Mt Gambier where we first got to know you and share in the life of the church. John was a great example of God's love in action.

Dear Lyn and family, What a privilege it was to share in the service of celebration of John’s life and faith. Everything that was said about John was our experience with him- his strong faith, his love for his family, his warm hospitality, his questioning , his encouragement , and his demonstration of leaving of things in the quiet presence of a holy and loving God was an example to us and comforted us when we couldn’t find the answers. Our lives have been enriched by knowing him and we are thankful for him . John never seemed to age and we remember with affection the way he always asked after my ( Brenda’s) mum - delighting in her Devon accent . Dear Lyn and family, my thoughts and prayers are with you. Today's celebration of John's life and faith was so beautiful. I am very thankful to have been able to participate online. My favourite memories of John are of his(and Lyn's) hospitality towards me as a young teacher in Mount Gambier (having just left home for the first time), where I was invited to Sunday lunch after church on many occasions. The home cooked meal was always delicious and conversation meaningful, as well as fun. I felt valued and greatly encouraged and welcomed in as part of the family. With love from, Ros Loebell

I am forever grateful for the way John took the time to correspond with me when I was struggling with my faith as a teenager, full of unanswerable questions with seemingly no one to talk to. Though we were some 56 years apart in age, and had never actually spoken to each other before (!), he took it all in his stride with great patience (as his son Mark later did also - a pivotal moment in my life that I've never properly acknowledged). Looking back, it was an extraordinary act of grace on God's part to bring such an unlikely thing about. I am so blessed to have met John, and the family that he has had such a wonderful influence upon.
