James Glasby

It's hard to believe James has left us. He was genuinely one of the closest friends I've ever had; while I was unable to see him recently I still loved the guy immensely. I knew him as life of the party and Mr Popular, he had a real talent for making people laugh and feel great around him. The memories I have with this man are some of my most treasured possessions. I will tell our stories of times together for the rest of my time on this earth. We all miss him so much and my heart goes out to Linda, Bob and Nick and the rest of his family.

I first met James as part of a very tight group of friends when I moved to Chester aged 16. It was a nerve-wracking time, but these guys were the friendliest, most welcoming people I've ever met. At the centre of each party was this chap James, and it was easy to see why so many people loved him. A genuinely funny, energetic, charismatic and entertaining guy who had time for anyone, and as anyone who knew him will be feeling right now, this loss feels especially hard to take. Like one or two posting here I wasn't as close as some to James, but I've always treasured the times from when we were knocking around in Chester in the late 90s. He will be very much missed by all that knew him. My deepest condolences to James' family and close friends, and wishing you all the strength you need to get through this. Khalil x

The visits to Chester were the highlights of the school holidays for me growing up. New scenery, exciting days out and brilliant company. James sense of humour was engaging and sharp. He was easy to be around with his friendly nature and uplifting personality. The days out were superb new experiences but just climbing the tree in the back garden and catching up were just as enjoyable. I remember counting down the days until we were the hosts during the holidays and I could show off our local haunts. The time we all went quad/car racing, some sort of mobile with four wheels going around an outdoor track. Somehow I was leading James going into the last corner but adrenalin kicked into my right foot and I hit the corner too fast drifting out wide in the process. James meanwhile keeping an ice cool head picked the perfect line and cruised past on the inside taking the chequered flag and the glory. It seems like 3 days ago not 30 years. Another memory that sticks with me was getting shot in the chest by an unsavoury with an air rifle. Being confused rather than injured I remember James reacting quickly and storming towards our aggressors taking no nonsense in the process. James was fearless, loyal and brave which goes a long way in my book and will never be forgotten. The news of James is deeply saddening but I will remember James for the funny, kind, loyal friend that he was during our childhood and the great times we had.

We all have many happy memories of weekends together when the boys were young. We hadn’t seen James for a while and this news is truly sad. We send our love to Linda, Bob and Nicki and to the family and friends of James. Rest in peace dear James. xxxx

I'm so sorry to hear about this. I was not as close to Glasby as a lot of people here, but I have fond memories back in the day of his smiling face after a few drinks saying "alright Sha!". Always associated Glasby with being a good man, and deepest condolences to his family and friends.

It is very difficult to come to terms with the fact that James is no longer with us. It always put a smile on my face when I realised we were on the same job together. His infectious smile and laugh, and brilliant sense of humour carried all of those around him. I will remember him forever. Rest well James.

I remember working at the ICC when James started there .. a shy but obviously intelligent guy who grew in to a superb technician who was always happy to help and always with that cheeky smile on his face! Glasby you have left a tragically short but beautiful legacy and were clearly very much loved by everyone who’s lives you touched. Godspeed my friend .. never forgotten xx

It’s very tough to write about a person that you feel is still very much around. Such is the impact James made on those he met. You are someone I wish I had longer to spend time with. Instead, I’ll carry my fond memories of you for as long as is possible. I extend my deepest and sincere condolences to all family and friends of James. Rest in peace my friend.
