Jack Herft

We spent two weeks at Yvonne and Jack’s home when we were in Perth before we set up our home. We will always remember their kindness and warmth. Jack was a wonderful person and will be greatly missed. Sending you love and strength during this difficult time. Please accept our sincere condolences.

Thank you Jack for our memories of you which stretch over four decades. For your humour, your wit, your anecdotes and jokes as well as your stoic and steadfast presence. The caring side of you is remembered with gratitude, especially when we arrived in Perth as new migrants. We also have fond memories of your time with us in Canberra. Forever in our hearts.

My earliest recollection of Jackie was in the mid 1980s when he would pop in to pick up Yvonne from the office where I took worked. Years later when I came to know Daisy, that I learnt that this thin tall boy is her brother. My sincere condolences to Yvonne and all other family members who share this loss Aunty Nimal, Savi and Varuna

Dear Yvonne, Amanda, Jared and family, our deepest sympathies and prayers.during this sad time. Cousin Jack, known as "Jackie" from childhood was a live wire from the day I've known him. We shared many holidays in Deniyaya and Dehiwela and treasure many memories of cousins together. Across the bridge there is no more pain. His memory will always bring a smile to all of us. Rest in peace dear cousin.

U nc. Jackie, to me he was. From the days of School Lane in Dehiwala to the tea estates in Deniyaya, where so much memories we had. From the pranks he played on Unc. Vernon, and the pranks he playes on everyone, Love fllowed in his veins. I'll miss him so much.... His soul will find eternal peace, withhin Heaven, and He''ll Rest in Peace.

Dear Yvonne, Amanda, Jared and families, deepest condolences on the passing of Jack. Holy Mass was offered for Jack at 3:00pm on Divine Mercy Sunday, at Holy Spirit Church St Clair NSW. May our Lord who conquered death, welcome Jack into His eternal embrace, and may our Blessed Mother wrap you all in her mantle of comfort and peace. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

We shared a desk and a drawer — just the two of us — at the Old Newspaper Offices, and you’d fully expect me to respect the invisible line. Through all those serious moments of newsmaking — pondering the right angle, weighing the balance between fact and fiction — your wicked humour crept in without fail. Sometimes there was simply no telling the two apart. That said, while many would remember you for your funnies, there was another side — a steady, trustworthy one — that held firm when it truly mattered.
