Elias Matjiane

The position of Deputy Director: Finance in the Department of Communications and Digital Technologies was vacant after a sudden resignation of an ex-colleague who served the Department for over three decades. That left a huge void coupled with the loss of institutional memory and no skills transfer. When Elias filled that position he knew from the onset that he had big shoes to fill. He was thrown in the deep end from day one. Nonetheless he was not intimidated by the road ahead and accepted the challenge. He learned quickly. He gladly accepted the tasks assigned to him as part of the learning curved and turned the mistakes into positives. This in turn fast-tracked his settlement into the position such that he worked independently with little supervision in no time. He quickly gained confidence such that he took initiatives and was a very good team player. His progress was so above average that his probation did not require any extension. Indeed a void has been left.
