With deep sorrow and sadness, the Embassy of the Republic of Malawi to the United States of America in Washington, D.C., regrets to inform the general public in the United States of America, Canada and all countries of accreditation, of the passing of the Right Honourable Dr. Saulos Klaus Chilima, Vice President of the Republic of Malawi, Madam Patricia Shanil Dzimbiri, Colonel Sambalopa, Major Selemani, Major Aidin, Lucas Kapheni, Chisomo Chimaneni, Dan Kanyemba and Abdul Lapukeni who perished in a tragic plane crash on June 10, 2024. The Embassy wishes to also take this opportunity to inform all that His Excellency Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera, President of the Republic of Malawi declared a 21-day period of national mourning from June 11 to July 1, 2024. During this time of grief, the Embassy continues to keep in prayers all family members and friends.
