Dr Brian Terry

I am extremely saddened and shocked to see this page that Dr Brian S. Terry passed away 3 years ago. I feel that I must write something to remember him as my graduate study supervisor who had helped me so much nearly 40 years ago. I was his first and probably the only graduate student from China at Imperial College. Dr Terry did his best to secure continued funding which enabled me to continue my DIC research work to Ph.D project. DR Terry was my major supervisor along with Professor P. Grieveson and I had so much help and guidance from him over the years until I successfully completed my Ph.D/DIC degrees. He was always caring for me in academic research and making sure I had good living conditions by offering me research assistant work and extended his hand whenever I needed. In addition to my time at Imperial College, Dr Terry also found a post-doctoral opportunity in Glasgow for me through his connections when I was planning to return to UK after a couple of years of working overseas. He provided a reference letter for me when I applied a permanent job in W Midland which I worked for 9 years before transferring to USA. Sometime around 2018, I saw his profile on Regent’s University website when doing a search of published papers. Now over 20 years in USA and retired I was thinking of sending a thank-you-from-bottom-of-my-heart note to him, I suddenly saw this page announcing his passing away in 2020, my heart is so heavy! I want to thank Dr Terry for, without any exaggeration, his kindness and actions over the years that changed the life of myself and my family including my children. I cannot find enough words to express my feeling and gratitude to Dr Terry, he’s such a good gentleman! My belated deepest condolences to his family and will always remember his smile, NE England accent and unreserved helpfulness. Dr Terry will be missed by his many students and friends. Thank you again, Dr Terry.

Shocked and saddened, I had the pleasure of teaming with Brian in the tutoring of many years of undergraduates in the art of logistics management and change. Missed him this semester and will do so in the future. Rye humor and always busy! My sincere condolences to his family.

I am sad to hear about the passing of Brian. My condolences to Brian's family and friends. Brian was always smiling. I never had the pleasure of teaching with Brian but we would have a chat in the corridor and Brian was always so lovely and approachable. You will be missed. Vicky xxxx

I am very saddened to hear about Brian’s sudden passing. My deepest condolences to his family and friends. We shared office for a while, and I got to know Brian as a gentle man, always very supportive as colleague who never flustered. He approached most situations with a sense of humour and was receptive and caring with his students and colleagues. He will be missed.

I was very saddened to hear about Brian’s recent death. Though I only arrived at Regent’s in 2019, I’m very aware that Brian made a substantial contribution to the life and work of the University over many years. The comments on this page attest to that. Thank you, Brian, from the whole Regent’s community and on behalf of the many students whose education you helped shape.

Hey Brian, We'll never get to chew over the next Boro - Sunderland game! A real pity. Sunderland would have won though... So sad to hear this news, you were one of the good ones...

I had the honour to work with Brian closely in recent years. He was such a great colleague who would support and contribute whenever he's available. He was also very dedicated and caring for his students, as he would be willing to go the extra mile to support students. Very sorry to hear of his passing. He will be deeply missed. My sincerest condolences to the family members of Brian.

Brian supported many of our programmes and could be relied upon to step in when needed - very sorry to hear such news. Best wishes at this difficult time, Simon.
