Dionysios (Dion) Dionysiou

I was deeply saddened to learn about the passing of the esteemed scientist, Dionysios (Dion) Dionysiou. His contributions to the field were immense, and his legacy will undoubtedly continue to inspire many in the scientific community and beyond.

The sudden loss of Dion was a shock for all of us, friends and colleagues. We already miss his vitality, his passion for excellence and his creative ideas. May his loving family keep his memory alive.

The sudden passing of Dion is hard to take in. He was a great colleague and friend. Strong scientist and engineer but also easy to talk to and share problems with. Always looked forward to meeting him. He will be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

I met him for the first time at a conference of AOT at Niagara Fall in 2009. For an excited and fearful researcher who had just completed his PhD, he was a strong academician who made people sweat with the questions he asked. When he saw that I was from Turkey, he immediately came at the coffee-break and said with great joy that I was also from Cyprus. Later on, it was always very enjoyable to go to conferences where he was present and to learn-brighten many things from him. He was the star of AOTs conferences. A very young death, I wish patience to his family. Rest in peace Dion.

I may not have known or worked with him like everyone else here has. However, his image in my eyes, as one of the most humble and passionate professors I have ever met, will never be forgotten. I still remember reaching out to him as an unexperienced high school sophomore, looking into possible research opportunities to fuel my passion for environmental engineering. It just so happened that he worked with photocatalysts - in fact - one of the leading researchers in the whole world. Although I was unable to work in his lab, I asked to hop on a call with him just to discuss the future of photocatalysts and his experiences - an extremely valuable experience for me. We found a time to meet and despite his h-index probably being higher than my IQ, he answered all of my questions and inquries, even the silly ones with modesty and depth. There may not be another man like him and he will truly be missed. God bless Dion

I am extremely saddened and still can't believe it. Dion was a giant beacon in our community and such a great mentor. I first met Dion at 2009 ACS Meeting in Washington DC when I was a graduate student to present in a symposium that Dion organized. His positive energy, encouragement and exemplary scholarship have influenced me since then. This is a great loss to our community and I will miss Dion very much.

Dear Paula, Marianna and Stella, My deepest condolences. I feel so lucky to have shared multiple brief yet memorable and warming moments with Dion as part of our roles in Chemical Engineering Journal. Dion was an inspiration at both professional and personal levels. He dealt with things always with a smile. Often you (family) were on his words and mind, undoubtedly he felt very proud of you all. He leaves an unmatched legacy to scientific and CEJ’s community. He will be greatly missed.

Dion was the most caring, passionate, supportive professor and advisor a student could hope for. He was someone who you could just tell lived life to the fullest, with his travels, his many research accomplishments, and the sweet and proud way he'd talk about his family. I wish he could have been here with us longer.
