Dara Goldman, Associate Professor of Spanish and Director of the Program for Jewish Culture and Society, was a brilliant and collaborative scholar with additional affiliations in many units on campus, including the Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies (CLACS), which she also directed on two occasions, Gender and Women’s Studies, Comparative and World Literature, the Unit for Criticism and Interpretive Theory, and Women and Gender in Global Perspectives. A kind and generous colleague and friend to all who knew her, she will be remembered for bringing people together, and for her laughter, positivity, and wit. Que en paz descanse, may she rest in peace, and may her memory be for a blessing.

I knew Dara through many HGMS and Jewish studies events on campus. I will never forget the commitment to and interest in she showed to us graduate students. I felt that every event I attended with her was both a more intellectually stimulating one, thanks to her contributions, as well as a more energized and joyous one. Dara was such a kind and fun person. She was always supportive of me and treated me as a true colleague. I am in Spain and unable to attend the services. I am walking the Camino de Santiago and one is encouraged to bring a stone from home, to leave it somewhere on the trail. It symbolizes letting go of your worries, sins, and cares. Yesterday I left a stone in a beautiful quiet grove of eucalyptus trees in memory of Dara. This is a sad time but we all know she is in a peaceful.place with no cares anymore.
