Chiazo Claribel Igboeli (nee Marchie) (Mrs.)

It was a surprise to stumble across this memorial tribute page while I was searching for information about Queen’s School Enugu. I remember how as a child, the Igboelis arrived in Nsukka from Zambia which seemed very exotic to me then. Uncle Gaius and Auntie Claribel both radiated a quiet, thoughtful warmth and sophistication that was unique. The poise, soft spoken but firm mien that was Auntie’s characteristic feature shone through at Christ Church Chapel. She radiated a sense of one who knew much, had experienced much but listened well, but spoke sparingly, only when it was necessary. These of course were the attributes of a mature Christian with deep rooted faith. Her life and behaviour was a sermon greater than many preached in a hundred pulpits, and her faith manifested in her love and generosity exhibited in her hospitality and wise thoughtful counsel. I give thanks for her life and example and pray that she and Uncle Gaius continue to rest in the well deserved peace that is their due. I extend my deep condolences on behalf of the Anya family to the Igboelis, the Marchies and all whose lives were touched by Auntie’s beautiful life. May we all take strength from and be inspired by her exemplary life. All of us who were nurtured in that extraordinary community of Nsukka will never forget the contributions of our parents, people like Auntie Claribel, who in the aftermath of the brutal Biafran War, managed to create an idyllic childhood for us
