Dear Colleagues, This is with deep regret that we heard last week that one of our long standing advisers on classification issues passed away after being contaminated with Covid-19. Before starting his collaboration with the OSCE in the beginning of the 2000s, Charles has had a long and successful career within the UN. Very young, after graduating from the famous Pantheon-Assas Law School in France, he joined first UNESCO in Paris in 1963 and after a couple of years, joined FAO in Rome where he went up the ladder in the field of HR. He was a reference person on HR matters consulted by all when complex matters were under discussion. He was a true civil servant, abiding by the values of independence and respect for diversity. We express our sincere condolences to his wife Valerie and his son Alexandre.

Having worked closely with Charles while working with the OSCE, I never met a more inspiring international colleague. Charles was the complete professional and his recommendations, after any consultancy, were always relevant and of the highest quality. The word 'irreplaceable' is often an overused term, but in the case of Charles it is not. With sincere condolences to his family. RIP.

Sorry to hear about Charles and his passing. I enjoyed his leadership and his humour at FAO in the early 90s when I worked there with both him and Valerie. Our sincere condolences to Valerie and family. My wife and I were in Quebec City in the mid 90s on vacation when our paths crossed with Charles and Val. They were so kind that day and treated us to supper that night in the old city.
