Memorial

Alan McCarthy

xx xx, xxxx - xx xx, xxxx

Alan was an incredible man dedicated to his family, who he loved unconditionally; he is survived and beloved by, his wife Sue, his children Glenn, Stuart, Brendan and his wife Ashlie, grandchildren Remy and Reese, siblings, nieces and nephews, friends and every single person in his life. Alan loved his community, which he supported through his work with Victoria Police for 29 years; his time with the local Legal Service where he served as Chairman of the Board for some time; his umpiring work with Cricket Victoria as a member of the Premier Panel of Umpires; and his work based at Doveton College with the school community, breakfast club, Men and Women of Doveton, and more. Alan touched the lives of everyone he met, and always had a good word to say about everyone. He was full of love and kindness, honour and pride, bringing joy and comfort to his family, friends and community. Alan will be missed by many, but none more so than his family. As an organ donor, he will go on to help others and save lives beyond the span of his own. There will be no funeral, but when this craziness is over we will get together and have a drink to this amazing man we are so proud to call husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, colleague, mate and friend. Please hug your loved ones while you can

I am shocked and saddened to hear of Alan's untimely passing. I remember him as a man of great integrity, compassion and commitment to every facet of his life. He was a stalwart of the Hampton Park Primary School community as School Council President. Alan understood the importance of relationships, respect and trust in building partnerships. He was such a positive influence on the lives of so many. May the memory of a life so well lived bring some comfort and peace to you Sue, Brendan Glenn, Stuart and your family. May you be given the strength you need to put one foot in front of the other both now and in the times ahead. Rest in peace Alan.

Dear Sue, Brendan, Ashlie and family, it is with great sadness that I heard of Alan's passing and your great loss. My thoughts are with you at this time. From the moment I met Alan, he has had my respect, admiration and appreciation. I feel that the way he carried himself has been a great example to me. I have memories of him with both children and adults where he has made an impact on both and changed their trajectories for the good. He will be greatly missed. With love Fiona

To Sue and the boys. It,s taken a week to come to grips with the loss of one of the greatest men we know. Alan was a fabulous work colleague and a great friend to us. I will remember fondly the months we spent travelling eastern Victoria teaching senior police to be better managers. We spent several nights sampling the areas finest wines and food. The banter was always great between us. Alan loved his family more than anything else although I sometimes had to kick him out of the station to go home to Sue because he was so dedicated to his work. At a time when we can't give Sue a big hug, we just have to keep thinking of all the great times we had. We're going to miss the barbecues, with a glass or two of something fine, whilst solving the problems of the world. You may be gone our good friend but you will always be in our hearts and never forgotten. We can't believe you and Sue won!t be able to share your retirement dreams. Rest in peace beautiful man.

Life Well Lived A Life well lived is a precious gift, of hope and strength and grace, from someone who has made our world a brighter, better place. It's filled with moments sweet and sad with smiles and sometimes tears, with friendships formed and good times shared, and laughter through the years. A life well lived is a legacy, of joy and pride and pleasure, a living, lasting memory our grateful heart's will treasure. I will miss you Alan. xx

We feel so lucky to have met Alan and to be included by him and Sue in such a kind, warm and joyous extended family. The effort he made to ensure we felt at home, and his lovely nature with our children, will never be forgotten. Reading the messages and condolences it’s clear he made huge positive changes in people’s lives every day. Few people have such an impact in the world. We feel honoured to have known him, and are so deeply sorry for your loss. Matthew, Alice, Noah and Alfie xox

UK Ian C (son of Ron C) here, thanks to Lisa for letting me know the sad news about Alan. Sounded like the best sort of 'copper', and given the way that role touches so many peoples' lives, he must have done a great deal of good for the local community. Hope Sue and the kids find the strength to continue on and make Alan as proud of them going forward as I'm sure he always was. Love to Erin as well - who could forget the last-minute suprise of finding we were from opposite sides of the world, yet related.
