Alan Lobock

More than his reputation as a successful entrepreneur and investor, Alan was a compassionate, giving man with a sharp intellect and wit. He touched so many lives in a personal way and always sought to support others. When Alan’s family moved to the Valley in 1972 from N.Y., his parents opened a mattress and furniture store in Scottsdale. Alan worked for the store delivering mattresses and setting up furniture in customers’ houses. Alan later graduated from Arizona State University with an accounting degree. He worked at Price Waterhouse in Phoenix for eight years, eventually becoming a senior manager. His first entrepreneurial endeavor was as a co-founder of SkyMall Inc. in 1990 with three partners. Alan was CFO and executive vice president of marketing. He left SkyMall in 1992. After traveling for three years he jumped into the Phoenix startup community. He started consulting, became a mentor for Phoenix incubator Seed Spot, Chandler Innovations Incubator and ASU over the years. He also worked in leadership positions in hundreds of companies over the last 20 years. He recently held top positions with multiple companies, including as chairman of Convrrt and in advisory roles with Spotlight Software, Care Stratus and Stressfree Recipes. He shared that: “The thing I love about startups is learning,” he said. “I will get involved in a company simply because I’ve never been involved in that area before. I live and breathe startups,” Lobock said. “I just love it.” Alan leaves behind his wife, Theresa; son, Dustin; his parents and three sisters and his beloved dogs.
