Alan Garwood was a husband to Dalia, father to Kiki and Ella, and a treasured friend to many people in the UK and across the world. His untimely and sudden death at the age of only 65 shocked all that new him and his loss leaves a huge hole in the lives of many. This page has been created not only to preserve the many wonderful messages of condolence that were sent in the aftermath of Alan's tragic death, but also to allow further messages to be added by those that knew him as a lasting memory for Dalia and the family.

Dear Dalia, Kiki and Ella. I went to St. Andrew's Primary School in Hitchin, Hertfordshire. During the last couple of years my very best friend was Alan Garwood. We lost touch with each other when we moved on to different schools. From time to time, I remember my old friend Alan. This morning his name came into my mind and I did a Google search and found this memorial page. As soon as I saw his face my heart jumped. I hope I am right and this is indeed my old friend. If not, I do sincerely apologise to you. If I am right I can say that we spent every day together for about two years. We founded The Hitchin Historical Society together and we were prolific swimmers. We achieved several swimming medals together and at one time we were Life Guards at the Hitchin Swimming Pool. Just found out from Mike McCrow the sad news about Alan. I have many fond memories of working with such a lovely man. Flying to Langkawi and being taken to dinner at the Sultan of Brunei’s residence and taking pictures in the dark on the beach are among my favourite memories. A true gentleman always open to discussions both personal and work. Such a sad loss and my thoughts are sent to his family. Hope we meet again up there one day Alan all my love x

I recall many happy days travelling with Alan during his leadership of DESO. Alan had an infectious and wicked sense of humour and loved a practical joke. But he was always prepared to sit with you, listen and give advice. He was hugely respected by his staff and they would go the extra mile for Alan. I will miss your broad grin even your jokes about the Welsh. A lovely man.
