Alan Campbell

Whilst much water has passed under the bridge since Alan's passing, I will never forget his infectious enthusiasm for all topics, especially the law and governance sections. He brought the subject alive, which is saying something for Chartered Secretaries (as it then was when I was enrolled with the College). Thank you for all your professionalism and enthusiasm - you have helped so many people.

I was sad to hear of Alan’s passing. I remember the cramming weekend in London on the noughties fondly and Alan’s counsel got me through my exams, with some merits and distinctions.

It's still hard to believe that Alan Campbell has passed. I remember speaking to Alan when I was exploring studying with Campbells College and weighing up whether distance learning or face to face tuition was better. Within a few minutes he'd not only convinced me that Campbells College was better but also encouraged me to aim as I pursued my new profession (having switched from engineering to governance). Alan and the other tutors made studying and working full time a lot easier through their detailed course notes & examples, respinsive & helpful feedback on course assignments, thorough revision courses (which made missing out on the spring bank holidays worthwhile and picked you up during the full and grey autumn). And when the results were released they celebrated you! Indeed, Campbells College is a legacy and I hope it carries on long into the future so that it continues to turn out fine Company Secretaries to support Corporate Britain and the rest of the world!

My deepest sympathies to Alan’s family and friends. I knew him as a student of the fast track qualifier. I very much appreciated his encouragement and patience, the time he took to mark my replies and provide helpful feedback. His depth of knowledge of his topic was outstanding and the way he brought to life the driest of topics with real life examples was brilliant. I loved all his helpful crib notes and easy to remember acronyms. Without doubt his teaching helped me to do my best in the exams. Thank you Alan for the legacy you leave to so many students.

I was deeply saddened to hear of Alan's sudden passing. I have known Alan for several decades having taught a number of subjects for Campbell's College. Throughout that time I regarded Alan as a friend, gentleman and devoted to all he knew. He was without doubt the best person I have worked with in my teaching career. My thoughts are and will be with his family and hope the feelings that people have for him will help them in their loss. Alan RIP you led a good life and will be missed Tony

Alan gave me my first job - stuffing envelopes for some of the Campbells College mail shots. He regularly shared his love of theatre with me. He encouraged and enabled my love of travel from a young age. He (possibly unknowingly) ensured there was always a computer in our house. There are many more little pieces of my life that have been touched by Alan in some form. Together these pieces have shaped who I am, what I value and what I do. I will miss Alan, and will never forget the impact he has had on my life

I first met Alan when I was at primary school with Alex in Wilmington well over 30 years ago and spent many happy hours in Hextable over the years. Alan's vast breadth of expertise and interests was always an inspiration to me and he has been a true and great friend to our family. It is with great sadness that we mourn his passing.

As a member of the Education team, I once gave a presentation to students together with Alan. I was telling the group about the positive feedback I always received on Alan’s teaching and service to students. While I was saying this I turned toward Alan and he did a perfectly timed mock fall from his chair! However, I am sure he knew that I meant what I said. I know from so many students I have talked to over the years how many his personal approach and support helped out. I was very shocked and saddened to hear the news about Alan and have had Alan's family and all at the College in my thoughts at this time.
