Minnie Buggs, lovingly known as “Aunt Minnie,” was born August 17, 1929, in Edgefield, South Carolina, to Minnie and William Watson. She passed away September 19, 2026, at age 97. Educated in Edgefield and Johnston, she married John Henry Buggs and moved north to Passaic, New Jersey, following her older sister, Parthina Dukes. As a domestic worker, Minnie cared for families with dedication, charm, laughter, and Southern hospitality. Her enduring bond with the Goldstein family inspired a promise to always look after her—a promise they faithfully kept. Though she had no biological children, Minnie was a mother figure to many. Her home was the heart of family holidays, where Thanksgiving and Christmas brought delicious meals, laughter, and the comfort of belonging. A beloved neighbor for over forty years, she maintained her independence into her nineties after losing her husband. Her remarkable memory preserved generations of family stories. She made people feel seen, acknowledged, and loved, leaving memories that will live on in those she touched. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John Henry Buggs; sister, Parthina Dukes; brother, Aquila Watson; nieces, Regina, Doris, and Parthina Watson; and nephews, John Abbot, William Watson, and Henry Dukes. She leaves to cherish her memory her godchildren, Steve and Howard Goldstein, Cheryl Dukes, Jason Dukes, Jonathan Dukes, Tanya Kirk, Shaniel Kirk, and Damien Kirk; nieces, Katherine Jefferson, Brenda Shaw, and Robin Dukes; and many great-nieces, great-nephews, relatives, and friends. Aunt Minnie’s legacy lives on through the families she cared for, the stories she shared, and the love she gave freely. We will remember her holiday table, her laughter, and the warmth of her welcome. Forever our Aunt Minnie. Forever loved. Forever remembered.
