Mateus Datagnan Germana

July 29, 1939 - April 2, 2020

Welcome to the memorial page for our beloved Mateus Datagnan Germana. He was affectionately known to most as “Da”, and to his beloved nieces and nephews he was “Ton Da”, and to his daughters he was simply “Dad”. At this moment, the Germana family are gathering to celebrate the life of Da, who we all loved so dearly. Anyone who knew Da would tell you that he had an infectious and handsome smile and even more, a memorable laugh. He was a natural “social butterfly” and became the life of the party, no matter where he was, and who he was around. Mateus Datangnan Germana was born in Plaisance (Nord) Haiti, on July 29, 1939 to Amèric Germana and Diane Pèan. Da spent his formative years in Haiti, working in his family’s business before migrating to the United States in the 1960’s to find better opportunities. He spent most of career working as a chauffeur for United Nations, the Daily News and other reputable corporations in New York City. Da is survived by siblings Amelie, Aramis, Serge, Raymónde, Gerarda, Pierrot, Destin, Wisly, Edith and Adelaine. He is also survived by three daughters, Nadia, Diana, and Diane-Lynn, five grandchildren Christopher, Jalen, Kayla, Nardo, and Kaïs. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews and Godchildren. Da was a friend to everyone. Well known in the Haitian communities across New York City, Boston, and Miami, Da was a fixture in everyone’s lives, not missing a birthday party, communion, wedding or funeral. He was there for everyone. A supportive brother, uncle, father, grandfather, and friend- he always checked on everyone. Da was a beloved family man, always concerned with the best interest of those he loved.
