Malcolm, you were one of kind, a true gentleman. We could all count on you to cheer us up if we felt down. Your jokes were something else but we were always quick to tell you how awful it was and even laughed regardless if we found it funny or not. I will always miss our chats on how bad the drive was to the office from Fife and how busy the Queensferry crossing is in the morning. You were my buddy at the SELECT awards, we always sat at the same table. We would have a laugh and we would wind up David Smith until his last awards night, especially convincing him that the Rod Stewart tribute was in actual fact Rod Stewart, he believed it too but we felt bad after a couple of hours and had to tell him the truth. I cant remember what he said when he found out but I do remember us laughing a lot. I will miss you and I regularly think about you, you are a big loss, you weren't just a work colleague but a friend too.

Devastated to hear about the passing of Malcom or “ Malky doo” as I used to call him . He was quite simply the funniest man I have ever worked with , his wit, his humour and his ability to create and tell a joke from nowhere was second to none . Such a big big loss not only to select but to life in general . Rip my friend god bless from Brydon ( select 1990 to 2004)

I had the pleasure of working with Malcolm on a joint training campaign across Scotland for 4 years . His willingness to collaborate , support for others and infectious personality hugely contributed to our success . It was a joy to know Malcolm and I am very sad to hear of him passing .

I had only known Malcolm for 2 years at SELECT, but he made a positive impact on me. Always smiling and happy to help. Especially when I persuaded him into dressing up and doing our funny work Christmas videos. This is how I will remember him, up for a laugh and always telling jokes. My thoughts are with his family.

My lasting memories of our dear colleague Malcolm are lunch time in the hub in SELECT. Malcom always brought a packed lunch box full of goodies prepared by his wife Arlene. We were always intrigued to see what he had for his lunch. Malcolm was a keen walker and would always go for a wee walk at lunch time and tell you a joke!!!! We had great times with Malcolm at the toolbox talks, SELECT awards, Christmas parties, never a dull moment. He was definitely one of a kind, a true gentleman and we will miss him sorely.

I will always remember my pal Malky, yes he told some awful jokes but he also told some hilarious stories. Some lunch times he had me in stitches we were both laughing. I worked with Malcolm going on 15 years and in that time we had some great Christmas parties, and went to the SELECT awards which were always a hoot, well at least nearer the end of the night. The members always asked after him, hoping he was doing their course. I'll miss his mischievous laugh. He is a diamond in the sky now, look up and the brightest one will be him/ RIP Malcolm you will be missed by so many people. My heart goes out to his wife Arlene and daughters Clare and Louise and his granddaughters. Also to all his SELECT family.

I’ll always treasure the best memories I have of Malcolm - at work, away at Toolbox Talks, the awards, Christmas parties and everything in between. I can still hear his laugh so clearly though it has been a few years since I saw him last. Malcolm was an absolute diamond and I count myself very lucky to have known him and shared some good times. He was such a thoughtful, kind hearted, funny and clever guy who was so welcoming to everyone and would always be on hand to offer help if you needed it. I was happy to offer it to him in return when I heard the words “Natalie, my wee pal..” as he approached my desk! The way I used to describe him to family and friends was ‘the fun uncle’ - everybody needs one and that was exactly what he was like. “True story..” Such a heart breaking loss. Sending so much love to Malcolm’s family, who are very much in my thoughts x

I am deeply saddened, at the loss of Malcolm a dear friend and colleague Always smiling and ready with a joke or story to tell he never failed to make me smile. I will miss travelling to events together and popping over to see him for a coffee. He left a lasting impression on everyone he met and was loved by everyone at SELECT. My thoughts go out to Arlene and family at this incredibly difficult time.

Sue Ross First time I was introduced to Malcolm (he had a cheeky grin and a sparkle in his eye), and he told me a story about a special sandal maker called Philippe Floppy. My mate Malky, one of a kind, the finest of THE very best, a true gentleman and a friend, always ready with an offer to help and a pleasure to be around. A credit to himself, SELECT and the electrical industry. Malcolm will be greatly missed, and my condolences go to Arlene and family, plus his work mates at SELECT.

I was very sad to hear the news that Malcolm had passed away. Having worked closely with Malcolm over the past 16 years, he was always very professional, calm and caring, no matter how busy he was. Yes his jokes were terrible but he brought a smile to your day! He has taught me so much during my time at SELECT which I’ll always be thankful for. Thoughts with Arlene and the family at this terrible time.

So many wonderful memories over the twenty odd years I've known Malcolm but these are the ones that immediately spring to mind. Strip the Willow at many a dinner dance having had far too much to drink and then finding ourselves some of the few left standing when they wanted to close the bar in the early hours wondering where the time went, Painstakingly talking him through his IT hiccups and trying to guess what Malcolm could see on his screen and of course his truly terrible jokes. Malcolm was one of the greats. He is sorely missed.

Not only was Malcolm a very treasured colleague, he was also a key member of the SELECT family. Trade Associations like SELECT are founded on relationships and Malcolm was one of our best assets in building and fostering relationships within the industry. Over the years he has trained thousands of electricians and he was always keen to reinforce messages of working safely and his work ethic shone through as an example to everyone he met. From my own perspective, I always enjoyed being in his company, despite his terrible jokes and awful Sean Connery impressions, and I will look back fondly on the times we shared together. You will be missed Malcolm. Alan Wilson
