Herbert Klein

August 4, 1928 - June 30, 2022

Herbert was known for his love of people and his creator Jehovah. At the same time, he was adventurous and explored the world. He not only called Germany home, but he had a fondness for each of the places where he had lived: New Zealand, France, Switzerland, Poland, Australia, Greece or Belgium. He was a devoted husband to his dear wife Hilde with whom he shared 62 years of his life. He worked hard to give his sons Hans-Jürgen, Dietmar and Dirk a solid foundation for their lives. He embraced his daughters-in-law Arlette, Susanne and Maria as if they were his own. His delight in his grandchildren Garance, Jordan, Stephanie and Jared was seen by all. The foundation of his life became his love, devotion and worship of our creator Jehovah. He fully lived his faith, and tried to reflect his creator’s love in helping many to come to know Jehovah, and to grow in their service to him also. While he will be greatly missed, we relish the opportunity to see him again just as Jehovah has promised (Daniel 12:13).

Some of my best memories...I remember some interesting driving methods, that included utilising the curb as we drove along, amongst other road adventures, an interesting conversation about the appeal of red hair (and then a discussion on how my hair had some kind of red in it), listening to all his stories (and feeling no pressure to speak much which was a relief for a shy girl), and definitely the beret. I remember one day as we were witnessing he gave me some advice: When a householder states some sort of disagreement/objection, all I need to say is 'fair enough'. Somehow it just doesn't sound the same when I use it though! I really look forward to making more interesting memories one day.

This is my favourite photo of Brother Herbert because you can see his big smile, warmth and how much he loved kids. My earliest memory of Brother Herbert was when he used to pick me up and I remember thinking of how high from the ground I was but I felt safe in his arms. Even when he couldn't pick me up anymore he still gave the best hugs. When I used to go witnessing with him I remember holding his hand and trying to keep up with his big steps. These are the best memories. I really loved Brother Herbert and will miss him but can't wait to see him again as Jehovah has promised. Sammy xxxx

Witnessing with Brother Herbert was always interesting as he spoke of his various postings or experiences in the truth. His fantastically warm smile, hearty handshake and enthusiastic greetings always made me happy to see him at the hall or at the group. Such a gentle giant - it will be amazing to see him with perfect feet and legs gallivanting energetically when all is made new and everyone's good memories are restored!
