Gareth was amazing, a great friend and a fantastic, reliable, and helpful colleague. He made me laugh on regular basis and cheered me up on any bad days. The students thought highly of him, and he was always there for any who called into the office with any problems. He would always keep the office supplied with huge tubs of sweets from his trips to Costco. Despite insisting that we were all trying to eat healthily, they wouldn’t last long!! He and I would often chat football, both being fans of Liverpool FC, and my half-hearted attempts at the work fantasy football league. I did beat him one year though. Another favourite topic of conversation was the lottery, he always reminded everyone to buy tickets. He would talk about his family and Mr Cooper all the time and my heartfelt condolences go out to all of you. He will be missed so much and thought of and talked about often xx

Patrick Minford Gareth was a great source of advice and support in our postgraduate Hub (i.e. administative centre). He was unfailingly cheerful and helpful in the face of the complexities raised by exams and assessments. I went to him frequently for help over these knotty problems posed among our hundreds of PG students.. Time and again he helped me solve them. I am so grateful to him. He is sorely missed by me and other academics, just as he is by his colleagues in the Hub for whom he was a delightful colleague. My deepest condolences to his family. Gsreth was a really nice person and a superb colleague. ..

My condolences to the family and friends of Gareth's. He was a wonderful person, fully of joy and generosity and the willingness to help. I remember our chats about shopping... especially in Costco and Amazon...quite funny conversations really. I also remember Gareth's passion for getting things right, dealing with students and the work itself. I feel a sense of loss....I know he touched so many lives and he will be remembered...he will be missed. Rest in Peace Gareth

Memories - I have so many of Gareth. His dark sense of humour would lift me up on my down days as I could with him. He was my go to with Excel issues amongst other things and he had such a breadth of knowledge and would come out with these random facts and I would be like how the hell do you know all this stuff! He would do his naughty laugh and say I just do. He loved his lego and the big collection that Mr Cooper and himself had accrued over the years. He would tell me how it would go up in value and really make me want to get into lego lol and would show off the latest addition he had at home. Not a day would go by with "Mr Cooper" being mentioned - sending a big hug to you if you read this. Even when he moved to another team I knew if I had anything I was stuck on I just had to give him a call and he would always come back with the answer. I still spoke to him a lot even when he moved. I am sure he dreaded seeing my name pop up :) but we would sort out my issue, have a little chat and the call would always end - don't forget the lottery. I can still hear him say it now. He was very family oriented and would send emails when there was a new addition to the family to show us all and spoke of you all so warmly. His hub nickname Grage - a nickname that came about after a student had sung his praises and had gotten his name wrong - a lot of students asked for Gareth when they came in in to the PG Hub he had a way about him that would calm down an upset student he would take them to the side sit them down and talk everything through with them. They always left more positive after speaking with him. Gareth was so kind, caring, sensitive, thoughtful - every birthday he would make a special visit to Costco and that person would have the biggest cake - and there was always a big bag of sweets or treats on the desk Gareth never came in empty handed. I will miss seeing you walking down Colum Road with your big coat on which you wore all year round even when it was boiling in you came with the big coat on. I am just glad to have called you my good friend. You were loved by one and all that met you and you are going to be missed so much. You will leave a big hole in our hearts. Sending heartfelt condolences and love to his family and friends and all in CARBS - he will never be forgotten xxx

I just want to say how much I appreciated Gareth's approach to working with his colleagues. He was so helpful and good natured in everthing he did. I only worked with Gareth when dealing with dissertation marking and while this was infrequent I was always struck by his attention to detail - nothing was ever too much hassle and he always seemed to have a reasonable answer at his finger tips. What a lovely man.
