妈。。千言万语。。不知从何说起。 就从我认识阿贵开始。阿贵第一次谈起妈您的时候， 是用四个字来形容妈您的。 说“我妈妈是一个很省的人。。我妈妈是“省吃俭用” 把我们6个兄弟姐妹养大的。我妈妈5分钱也很珍惜的。当时，我对阿贵说， 天下父母心。你妈妈如果没有像你所谓的“省吃俭用”, 那会成就今天的你呢？...对了， 就是这样。。打从毕业开始， 找到的第一份工作在新山。就开始借住在15楼。开始和您一起生活时。心里其实很害怕。。不过在和妈妈相处的一段日子，我观察到妈妈您是一个外表严肃不过不能相处的人。和您相处一起的点点滴滴我都牢牢记在心里。妈妈每天旁晚在15楼床口望下火车站和天桥。等我和阿贵， 还有阿 moi 放工一起吃晚餐。。我每个月出粮就买妈妈爱吃的“wa dan hor" 给妈妈配饭一起吃。。因为阿贵告诉我妈妈喜欢这样吃法。饭后还切苹果。我每天陪妈妈看电视剧还一边聊天。 妈妈会跟我谈心事， 说她以前年轻时很辛苦， 说她想念爸爸。 还交代我以后如果有了孩子， 不管男女都要拱她们读大学， 才不会被人瞧不起， 还说了很多很多， 我就只是伶听。 接着不久， 我搬去吉隆坡了。 还记得妈妈来吉隆坡找我们。 当时我没有什么钱， 我只带妈妈去吃甲洞最好吃的Asam Laksa 和 Cendol..不过也觉得开心呢。 我永远记得妈妈当时握着我的手跟小贩阿姨说“ 这位是我的好媳妇。是上帝赐给我的好媳妇” 。小贩阿姨对妈妈笑了。妈妈也笑了。 我也握着妈妈的手说“ 快吃吧。。冷了就不好吃了”. 过了不久为了有更好的生活， 阿贵去了新加坡工作， 接着两年后我就这样我又搬回新山了。 当时妈妈开始病了。 我对阿贵说， 现在我们比较有能力些， 为什么不要请一个女拥放在家照顾妈妈。。为什么要把她放在那个地方。 阿贵说。。妈妈不要跟我们住。 当时我就想起妈妈之前一直跟我说爸爸交代他一定不可以难为孩子。。说什么掌心是肉， 掌背也是肉。。妈。。您就是这样。。我记得你跟我说的每一句话。 你就是这样。。一生无怨无悔的为孩子付出。。千言万语。。说到这都想哭了

You will always wake up 4am to cook breakfast for us to eat for our morning school. Although you work from 9am to 9pm, you will always make sure we have proper lunch and dinner. Mama stands just at 1.52 m tall but her gentle demeanor belies her inner strength and mental resilience which are developed over the years. She is a woman of few words but her actions speak it all through the contagious affection for her loved ones, be it her own children, daughter-in-laws and grandchildren. Her wish is simple - to have everyone gathering under one roof to eat a family meal. We especially loved Mama's signature oyster pork 'haosi', and the extra punch that came with the sambal chilli. I vividly remember her radiant smile when we visited Mama and she would reinforce the message - must provide our children with a university education. Mama, Qi Qi has finished her masters and Kai Kai will be embarking on his university journey in 1 month's time so don't worry for them. I can feel your sense of nostalgia too every time you relate anecdotes to Ah Yong and me about your early life as a young girl in Malacca and how much your father dotes on you. I have no doubt you have really sweet and nice memories of those times. You have taken the candle in your own hands to light the world for all of us. We will treasure and cherish you forever in all our hearts !

Dear Popo, thank you for your love and kindness all these years. I will always remember visiting you during my early childhood days looking forward to eating the fishball soup that you cooked. While papa cooks the same dishes sometimes, it still tastes a little different. I fondly remember how every visit would eventually lead up into a situation where papa tries to give you fruits/gifts and you would vehemently say 'mai mai' or no in hakka. It was clear how dearly you loved your children and I am truly grateful for your indomitable spirit and for the sacrifices you have made to raise your children into independent adults and caring parents. I remember visit Chun Ku with my father, the late Mr Lai Kuen Poo, She insisted that we go for lunch (my late father was a vegetarian, so we had lunch at a vegetarian restaurant) and throughout lunch she made sure I had taste all the dishes in abundance. Treasured Sister & Remarkable Aunt My childhood memories of Aunt Yuk Song are vague. In adulthood, I have grown to admire and respect her from a distance. My most memorable interactions with her was on the occasion on the passing of her beloved husband. My dad was not able to travel to JB so he sent me as I had started working in Singapore. After I had paid my respects, even in her grief, she insisted on feeding me at her home. It was a simple soup but extremely delicious. Sam tells me she is a culinary wizard. In her more youthful days when she was hospitalized at SGH, whenever I popped by her hospital bed, I found her full of vigour, lively and cheerful. Dad had always lamented that his older sisters were never allowed much education in their youth. Dad had always been very proud of all his sisters. He often remarks they have done remarkably well despite being dealt harsh cards. Mdm Lai Yuk Song, treasured sister of the late Lai Kuen Poo, because she took on the job of doting and looking after him because grandma was sickly. Rest well Aunty Yuk Song and rest in peace for having lived, loved unconditionally and know you are the beloved of many. Niece (Oi Fah)

I remember that my Popo will come to our house when I was a baby to carry me and see Dad and Mom. Every year when we go to Popo’s house, she will call my name Ah Wen and make us a lot of goodies. You are the best mother in the world, truly selfless and always thinking what is best for us kids. You will not buy yourself a plate of char kway teow or even a can of your favourite sarsi, but would not hesitate to pay for our costly education. You worked long hours at the textile shop (9am-9pm, x7days) to ensure that we lived comfortably. My happiest moments in life are during those childhood days where you showered us with tender loving care. Thank you Mother.
