Vishna Rasiah

July 19, 1971 - April 23, 2020

Dr Vishna Rasiah, beloved husband, father, brother, son and a well-respected and much-loved colleague at Birmingham Women’s and Children’s, has sadly passed away following treatment for COVID-19. Dr Rasiah, known to all his friends as Vish, was a Consultant Neonatologist at Birmingham Women’s Hospital and was highly-regarded across the Midlands as part of his role as Clinical Lead for the regional Neonatal network. Vish was a proud husband and father. His wife Liza said: “We’re devastated at losing our beloved Vish. He was such a loving husband and father to our beautiful daughter Katelyn, and much loved son and brother to our family in Malaysia and Trinidad. His whole family meant the world to him, and he absolutely doted on Katelyn. Vish loved his work; to him it was so much more than a job and his colleagues are part of our family too. He treated every patient and family he cared for as his own; I couldn’t have been prouder of him. I would like to thank the staff at Worcestershire Royal Hospital for the kindness, compassion and the care that they have provided to us over an incredibly difficult past few weeks.”

I first met Vish in 2005 when he was a research fellow, and I was a neonatal registrar, he was such a pleasure to work with-so calm, kind and wise. A few years later I had premature twins and experienced his kindness and compassion as a parent. How lucky my boys were to have him watching over them. Liza and Katelyn, my heart goes out to you in the face of this terrible loss, and I hope that the outpouring of love and respect for your Vish is some small comfort in these dark times. He really did make a difference to so many lives, and he won't ever be forgotten. Isobel Brookes
