Vishna Rasiah

July 19, 1971 - April 23, 2020

Dr Vishna Rasiah, beloved husband, father, brother, son and a well-respected and much-loved colleague at Birmingham Women’s and Children’s, has sadly passed away following treatment for COVID-19. Dr Rasiah, known to all his friends as Vish, was a Consultant Neonatologist at Birmingham Women’s Hospital and was highly-regarded across the Midlands as part of his role as Clinical Lead for the regional Neonatal network. Vish was a proud husband and father. His wife Liza said: “We’re devastated at losing our beloved Vish. He was such a loving husband and father to our beautiful daughter Katelyn, and much loved son and brother to our family in Malaysia and Trinidad. His whole family meant the world to him, and he absolutely doted on Katelyn. Vish loved his work; to him it was so much more than a job and his colleagues are part of our family too. He treated every patient and family he cared for as his own; I couldn’t have been prouder of him. I would like to thank the staff at Worcestershire Royal Hospital for the kindness, compassion and the care that they have provided to us over an incredibly difficult past few weeks.”

Dear Liza and Katelyn You do not need us to tell you what a wonderful father and husband Vish has been. All the tributes you will read are a testament to his super hero powers as a doctor and human being. It is all true! This is a photo of a wonderful holiday in Trinidad. In friendship forever Ingo, Andrea and Noemi

‘’ BOSS’’ this is the last time I met you when you were giving me career guidance and advising me how to make the best out of what I have. I never thought this is it! I am privileged that life gave me a chance to work with you and learn so much from you “Boss”. I will always look up for you in the brightest star. My heart and prayers go out to your family and friends. May your soul rest in peace.

This photo was taken when I was a capacity manager at Birmingham women’s neonatal ITU... it was a day we delivered quadruplets that needed to move to another hospital- as the transport team were very busy, Vish and I booked an ambulance and took one of the quads ourselves! You regaled stories of your transport days in Australia and Sheffield. It’s one of many fond memories I have working with you for 8 years. Unfortunately, I won’t get to work with you again. You were a fantastic leader, consultant, part time photographer and friend. You were integral in my training to become an ANNP. The women’s will not be the same without you. My thoughts are with your family during this time. All my love Jesse xxx

To my dear friend Dr Vish you,ve gone ahead of us,It is hard to say " Good- bye" And in our grief and Sorrow we are tempted to ask "Why" Words cannot express the love and admiration i have for you. You were like a shinning star in all our lives on the NNU. As the sunny days appears and the evenings draws nigh, i shall be looking for that bright shining light in the sky. RIP my brother. Vish we have such lovely memories of everything on the NNU because of all the photos you insisted on taking, including ‘ Cake Thursday’ which is a tribute to you and has made the NNU an even better place. You were simply the best, such a dedicated Neonatal Consultant, assertive in treating the sickest babies, so caring not only for the baby but for the neonatal staff, doctors and parents. You gave everyone a chance, treated us all as an equal and encouraged us all. I will miss you but I will remember everything you taught me. NIcola Grego, ANNP.

Dear Vish - where ever you are keep safe. You are leaving a massive gap behind you and we are missing you terribly already. Katelyn is the luckiest girl to have such a wonderful, kind and caring daddy. He really looked after all of us nurses and celebrated every one of us. Vish - you are forever in our hearts. Yvonne Heward, Head of Nursing in your Neonatal Unit. xxxx
