Tony Peers

February 19, 1971 - May 7, 2021

We are profoundly sad and shaken by the passing of our much loved and valued Director of HR, Tony Peers. He made a vast contribution to the life and the people of the National Theatre – a cast of thousands – over a quarter of a century. We and very many colleagues mourn his loss immensely and offer our deepest sympathies to Tony’s family and friends. Tony worked at the National Theatre for nearly 25 years. He supported the organisation in achieving its many aims, but above all he supported the people who work here. He was an extraordinary support to Rufus and Lisa, and to previous leadership teams, as well as to an enormous number of managers and staff across the NT during his time with us. He also supported the sector more widely, offering sage advice and guidance to other theatres and supporting industry initiatives and partnerships. Tony was kind, generous and caring with a brilliant mind, and his knowledge and expertise were hugely trusted and respected by all who had the pleasure of working with him. We will miss him so much.

I will always remember Tony for his kind nature. He was always willing to help or be an ear to listen, even when he was insanely busy! From daily conversations in the lift about what might be for lunch in the Blue Room to longer meetings about my Apprenticeship and career, Tony always took the time to care and pay attention. He will always be a part of the National Theatre for me, and I will never forget his kindness.
