Thomas Mateides

August 10, 1970 - March 7, 2020

Tommy passed away after a long and brave battle with Cancer. He left behind a heart-broken family that will miss his quirky sense of humour and his amazing personality. We hope to share your memories and messages with his young son in the years to come. We hope your messages will help him to see his father from his friend’s and his family’s perspective and to help him understand that the spirit lives on in those whose lives we touch as well as those we leave behind. Thank you.

Tommy who I sometimes referred to as Mr T or simply T was my friend who became my brother in law. I had a natural and effortless relationship with Tommy and miss him. When I first got to know T he came across to me as a mellow chilled dude but a little below this exterior lurked a more vibrant black humoured soul with this laugh at times that cracks me up  to this day when I think about it. He used to sometimes give "a look" which summarised certain situations that really used to tickle me. His inner strengths shone through especially in his last couple of years with us. He carried on going to work in defiance of his illness. I suppose it was his way of sticking his two fingers up at it. He kind of took it in his stride in an innocent kind of way. This is where his bravery and courage came to the fore and remained. T you did yourself proud man.
