Thomas Mateides

August 10, 1970 - March 7, 2020

Tommy passed away after a long and brave battle with Cancer. He left behind a heart-broken family that will miss his quirky sense of humour and his amazing personality. We hope to share your memories and messages with his young son in the years to come. We hope your messages will help him to see his father from his friend’s and his family’s perspective and to help him understand that the spirit lives on in those whose lives we touch as well as those we leave behind. Thank you.

My memories of our Tom go way way back as we lived opposite each other in Norfolk Avenue. Efty and I were the best of friends and Tommy was the little brother we let tag along. It didn't take too long that Tommy tagging along worked in our favour. We tried to be cool but for Tommy it just came naturally. He was the coolest dude around with his different interests and styles you just couldn't help but admire. The only downside was he supported Spurs !!!!! His love of Prince was there for all to see and at one point, pushed me to the limit. There was only so many times we could hear Prince playing until it got to pushing point. We were in Cyprus, in mid Eighties, Tom played the cassette over and over and over again, not caring at all that it was driving us mad. I said to him' Tom, enough, it's driving us round the bend' he didn't care and continued to play it. I told him I'd throw it out of the window, (we were 6 floors up!!) still he played it. True to my words, I took it out of the player and promptly threw it out of the window. He gave me that Tommy look. but he had to wait til the morning to go and look for it. He was up at 7am and was playing it again by quarter past. I am blessed to have had you in my life for as long as I did, but it still wasn't enough. We love and miss you everyday. Wow I remember him playing Prince but can’t remember what album it was. Yes that was the year he became really ill with his Crohns. He spent some time in hospital in Cyprus and then had his first operation. That was the first time we had been to Cyprus si
